Daily Inspiration: Meet Destiny Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Harris

Hi Destiny, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up one thing that was always very evident was my IMAGINATION. Anytime I would vacuum my childhood’s purple – dull carpet, in my mind I “was” a Hardworking mother of two — Of course, you have to look past these two little details: I was five years old and it was my mess to begin with. If that wasn’t enough here’s just one more because I can go on for years but I absolutely LOVED going to school everyday — it wasn’t for my friends though, it was just to simply study my teachers. I HAD TO. I had an intense classroom back at home located on our front porch that I had to get back to and teach. Which always included the studies that I just learned but you know being a teacher is hard- work especially, when your student’s don’t listen or just aren’t there… With all of this being said I believe becoming an Actress honestly wasn’t even my choice, I was made for this. However, I didn’t embrace that until the year of 2021. In that year I set my heart on an acting degree program at KD Conservatory College for Film and Dramatic Arts in Dallas, Texas which isn’t a big deal but I was also in my one and only home city: Toledo, Ohio… So, I did what any reasonable human being would do— I packed up my car and drove to Dallas, TX by myself and I’m still here!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh my Goodness, NO. I threatened to drive back to Toledo, Ohio about a million times and still ongoing. Besides the obvious financial struggles — I’ll save us from that BOOK. Learning to grow up alone at 20 years old in a city that I’ve never known, never even visited was and is honestly, the hardest thing. To top that off with an artist career… which brings in the biggest challenges: believing that I’m enough, accepting “no’s” for 90% of my everyday life, and just having to keep showing up. Growing up I lived in poverty and life was never really stable— which is something that I’ve always yearned for and why I chose to attend “regular” college for two years of my life before even pursuing this dream. Ironic that I WILLINGLY chose to pursue a career in the arts, I know. However, I think this just proves that if you’re doing what you were sent to Earth to do, you’ll do just that. All the struggles and challenges unfortunately but fortunately, really ARE shaping tools to build you into the human you were born to be and to do that very thing on Earth.
Now Finally, I see what people have been saying to me, around me, and even in songs… my WHOLE life…. “Beauty in the Struggle”.

But I still don’t like it and tomorrow I’ll probably be driving back to Toledo, Ohio.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
EVERY SINGLE DAY I get to still use my IMAGINATION and lie as my job!

I am a Professional working Actress currently based in the DFW Metroplex Area working as a Theatrical, Commercial, and Film actress. I absolutely LOVE having the opportunities to of course “lie” but really to relay truthful, powerful, and relevant messages to the world and to myself.
Every time I step into a new character or even a inanimate object, I am privileged to have that because I get to find something through myself and just as I’m taking the audience on whatever my character’s journey is, I, myself am too. I think this is the easiest way to mature and grow up in your 20’s… everyone should do this.

I guess what I’m known for is my smiling “sunshine” big presence, comedic timing, and my face that is so animated and accidentally ALWAYS tells my emotions. However, I would like to be known for my dedication, work- ethic, and passion.

It’s really weird typing this because I am never satisfied with anything that I do — at least in my own head. But every time I am asked the question “What are you most proud of?” I can only answer with “Everything”. I dislike all the adversities in my life but every time I’m working to get myself out again or on set playing a character or being told “No” — I do it and I hear it whole- heartedly and I always get through and start again.

So, I think that’s definitely something I should be proud of as well as, everybody with your own self! It’s hard enough going through life and trying to do what you love but it’s even harder when we ourselves are against us. Let’s just all look at our lives Objectively sometimes so, we can stay “sane” maybe…

What sets me apart from others is absolutely nothing. There are a million actors/ actresses out here who are all beautiful, passionate, and talented individuals working day and night to stay afloat. To which I send over my love to and praise. So here’s my message to my fellow artists and myself to read and maybe come back to: “Keep going” is the obvious thing I will say but just remember what you’re doing this for. If you want glitz and fame… just post a TikTok. If you want to truly change the world with your craft, you’re already doing it so, keep going !

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I love animals! I actually studied in animal science for almost two years at The Ohio State University and got a few certifications to work with farms animals. Another surprising fact is that I attended OSU and I was a Michigan Fan… it was cheaper, what can I say?
