Today we’d like to introduce you to Dierrica Smith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always loved writing, whether it was journaling about my day, writing down an experience I had, or using my imagination to jot down a short story.
When I was younger, I told myself “One day I’m going to write a book.” What I didn’t anticipate was doing it so early in life.
I started writing my book in 2021 with a simple outline of potential topics that I would cover and on November 1, 2025, I released my first self-published book “Journey to Jesus.” The response from readers has been great and is a sweet reminder of why I did this in the first place.
My book is perfect for anyone, but my target audience is women, youth, and young adults pre and post college. We all go through our own challenges and I sincerely wanted to share mine to help someone else in a similar situation.
I have been through ups, downs, highs and lows and the beautifully consistent thing through it all is the love that God has for me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has not been a smooth road at all. My challenges with completing my book included being vulnerable enough to share my story for the sake of helping others, navigating the self-publishing world as a new author, finding an editor, determining how my book cover and interior would look, and understanding the best route for distributing the book.
There were several time that I had to take long breaks to reset, re-energize, and re-focus.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In addition to being an author, I work in corporate fundraising which allows me to advocate for programs, services, and people while also building strong relationships with business leaders across varying sectors. I believe a big part of my purpose is to use my voice to help others.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe I am a calculated risk taker.
I have to admit that sometimes I even have a little remorse until I see the benefits that come from taking that risk.
I tend to play it safe until I force myself to venture out. However, when I make up my mind and set my sights on a goal, there is little to nothing that can stop me.
