Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwain King.
Hi Dwain, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, Ive always been a creative person. It started from a young age with drawing. My mother was a painter so when she saw that I had an interest in drawing she nurtured it and encouraged it. From there I grew into the arts and crafts sort of lol. I say sort of because I started to take interest in creating masks, helmets, and armor pieces from old radio shack boxes, cardboard or whatever I could get my hands on. I started painting designs on said pcs and experimented. Eventually I came back to drawing in high school in the form of graffiti. I had several sketch books and did pieces on book covers for the other students. Fast forward to my adult life getting married and having children the creative bug surfaced again but I had grew into a person that was introverted and observed the public. “What could I do to get me outside and be creative?” I choose photography and here we are.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. My priority has always been to provide for my family and it takes up a ton of time hardly any to nurture this new found creative outlet. Not to mention how expensive it is lol. Ive also struggled with my introverted nature. Im in my head a lot and have definitely talked myself out of opportunities for exponential growth due to my confidence in the field. Im a work in progress so every step I take in my creative journey is a win for that kid inside.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My main focus has always been portraits. They allow me to experiment, try out things and tinker. Ive photographed Quinceañeras, a wedding, and a few senior sessions. Ive taken an interest in street photography, Real estate, and Food. I just love using my camera providing a service for those who need it. Im most proud of the fact that I can be an example for my children to go after your passions and create income from it. Its possible but not without sacrifices. The love for it must come first. You have to absolutely love what you do. I like to build visual narratives with some of my more creative work. I love to tell a story.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by booking a portrait session, Creative projects or Event coverage directly through my website. Im always open to thoughtful collabs with other creatives and brands who share a love for the narrative and story telling. Best way to support the work is engage with it, share it and start conversations that support creative people.
