Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Simmons.
Hi Ebony , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Founded between 2018 and 2019, Kingdom Family Children’s Learning Center was born from a vision rooted in service, faith, and community. The founder, Mr. Chaz Simmons, who is the older brother of the current director Ebony Simmons, saw a growing need for affordable, high-quality childcare where children would be genuinely loved, nurtured, and cared for. Located within the family church—a historic space built by their great-grandfather generations ago—the daycare is deeply connected to a legacy of faith and community presence. What began as a heartfelt desire to give back has grown into a trusted pillar of support for local families, continuing a tradition of care, purpose, and commitment to uplifting the community through early childhood education.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been an easy road?
No, it has not. Like many childcare centers, the journey has come with its challenges. Maintaining compliance, holding ourselves to the highest standards of care, managing financial responsibilities, and ensuring consistent enrollment. Each day requires intentional effort, flexibility, and perseverance. While the work is demanding, it is deeply rewarding. Seeing children thrive, families feel supported, and the community grow stronger makes every challenge worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In my role, I oversee daily operations while ensuring compliance, quality standards, and a nurturing environment for both children and staff. What sets me apart. I would say my intention and values. I realize that I’m the steward of a mission thats far bigger than me. I understand that this career is a lifetime investment. Leadership in this field requires balancing structure with compassion, also supporting educators, mentoring my teachers, making critical decisions, and maintaining a culture of accountability and care. Through challenges such as staffing, enrollment, and regulatory demands, I have grown as a leader who remains committed to excellence, transparency, and community impact. Guiding this center forward has strengthened my ability to lead with said intention, resilience, and a bigger purpose.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The characteristics most important to my success are humility, teachability, and resilience. I owe much of my growth to my brother, whose firm leadership, business experience, and clear vision laid the foundation for everything we have built. Learning from his example taught me the importance of structure, accountability, and leading with confidence, even when challenges arise. His guidance has shaped my approach to leadership, reminding me that success comes from consistency, strong decision-making, and staying rooted in purpose. With that foundation, I continue to lead with heart, gratitude, and a deep commitment to serving our children, families, and community.
