Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Beckham.
Hi Elijah , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. Despite a good upbringing with both parents, the decision to use drugs recreationally and hang with friends led to me choosing the streets. After a battle with addiction and committing crimes to fund my addiction and still be able to provide for my family I was sentenced to 4-10 yrs in a state prison in Pennsylvania. I ended up serving 5 years of the 10 year sentence ultimately. After my release I came home with the biggest challenge I had faced to date and that was reintegration into society. After an extensive search and hundreds of applications I was hired to work for a construction company and this led to the biggest changes in my life. The job set me up with gainful employment and while working this job I met my wife. Three years after my release on my birthday I was gifted with 5 hours of studio time. After listening to me rap countless songs in the shower (music that I had wrote while incarcerated) and rapping for her family she decided I should give it a try. The rest is history.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to becoming Edubb302 was not an easy road. I come from a city where popularity is everything and of course after missing five years when you come home you are no longer relevant. Plus I wasn’t known for being an artist prior to heading to prison to do my time. Getting people to take you serious as an artist is a challenge itself. I focused on home and then branched out to major cities all across the U.S. on a self funded tour to get my name on the radar. I visited Philadelphia, PA, Brooklyn, NY, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Atlanta, GA, Baltimore, MD, Washington D.C., and Virginia Beach, VA just to name a few. Along the way I came across countless Janky Promoters who preyed on the indie artist and found myself sitting in artist showcases for hours at a time waiting for my chance to perform. Some of the showcases costs as much as $500 to perform just one song.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hip hop artist/songwriter out of Wilmington, De. I am known for writing and performing music that my audience can relate to. My strongest attribute is my live performance. I have a gift. I have always been able to walk on a stage and command the room. I pride myself on clean production, professionalism, and integrity. I am most proud of the growth that I have made as an artist. I went from a no name in my state to being known all across the world for my unorthodox cadence, authenticity, and vulnerability. I make music that delves into the highs and lows of my life. From Addiction, Violence, Hyper Sexuality, etc, to Family, Redemption, Inner Growth, Life lessons, etc.
What are your plans for the future?
In the future I plan on taking all of the gems I have learned since I started making music and paying it forward to the youth. My story of redemption I pray may be the story that some young man needs to hear to know that there is hope after mistakes. I want people to know that you are more than your worst action… I am also planning to hit the road again here shortly and introduce Edubb302 the artist to more potential fans. I am planning a long form project titled “The Awakening” that I plan on releasing before the 2nd quarter of 2027.
