Daily Inspiration: Meet Emily Lowry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Lowry.

Emily, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was originally attending UNT for a degree in Drawing/Painting but while taking a few ceramics classes as part of my degree requirements, I fell in love with the craft. That love was further solidified through joining the clay guild. I am now double majoring in Drawing/Painting and Ceramics

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been some challenges like worrying about how to get a stable job with an art degree, but I have so many resources from school and people I’ve met in the ceramics community.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in functional pottery with depictions of cute and happy imagery. Last summer I created a series of various animals painted onto dinnerware and called in my “Animals in Love” series. It’s a continuing series that I will add more to in the future. I think what sets me apart from other ceramists that I’ve encountered is that my work is just simple and cute without any deeper meaning, aside from wanting to make people smile.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’ve been working on increasing my library of ceramic books, so I don’t have much to recommend right now.
