Daily Inspiration: Meet Fabienne Roc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabienne Roc.

Hi Fabienne, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started DJing in 2016 after I attended Dub Spot Academy to learn for 3 months. At the time I was throwing rooftop parties in NYC, so I was able to use the early hours of the parties to practice in person. I also started making DJ mixes with my friend and that allowed me to practice. As I evolved, I was able to headline parties, and eventually started getting booked for other events, parties, and even company parties. My DJ career began to take off and I played almost every big venue in NYC, and then I started to go out of state and eventually international. I’ve DJed for many brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Jimmy Choo, Essence Magazine, SXSW, Pernod Ricard, Chevrolet, XXL, Uber, Adidas, and many others. DJing has also allowed me to play in countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, England, and Canda. It’s been a blessing to connect with people all over the world through music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth but I will say my journey has been a blessed one. Having an event planning background allowed me to create my own opportunities and get people to hear me spin. My network has been a huge part in supporting me to do everything I’ve done in the past seven years. I know I’ve had opportunities that others have worked many more years to have, and I’m grateful for that. Additionally, my background in music I think is a big part of my talent. Coming from a family of musicians has been helpful to have such a range in my taste and relationship with sound. I don’t take that for granted and I feel like it gives me a special advantage.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a DJ, blending songs together perfectly is something I strive to do and also take pride in. Not every DJ cares to do this. When I’m playing, I love to take people on a musical journey. I like to tell stories with my song selections. It’s not just about playing the hits. That’s easy. I like to dig deep, lean on nostalgia, and get people moving, happy and excited about the experience. I want people to leave the space feeling like they had a blast. Like they needed that. It’s movement therapy.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
As a new DJ in Dallas, I’ve been feeling out the scene to see where I can fit in best. I love doing dance parties, spaces where people want to vibe and have a good time. I’m not interested in the ego bottle wars that some venues are about. I like giving people an experience, and I’m looking to partner with venues, party planners, and promoters who feel the same way.
