Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerson Reyes.
Hi Gerson, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
It all started when I was 14 years old, I knew I wanted to play Drums but I always afraid of taking the challenge. Until my parents supported me on my journey and I pursued the Drums in my teenage years by taking private drum lessons then I started playing drums at my church. After that I really enjoyed it as I got older went to College and I learn more about the instrument I was involved in a jazz band and had a great teacher. With all of those years of studying and practicing the instrument it really help me as drum teacher and professional player.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road; when I first started playing the drums, I was not good at all the music director at my church basically told me I suck and I am not ready yet to play live, then when I to college and study drums I had a hard time learning how the read music and also learn new material from my instructor. There were sometimes where I just wanted to quit and stop playing because I got a bit discouraged
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Professional Drumer player, and also a teacher as well. I’ve been drums for over 17 years. I am really known for helping lots of new future drummers in my area, I help a lot of families with their kids who are wanting to learn drums, and they have probably had bad experiences with other teachers. When they come and learn Drums with me, they see the instrument in a different way, and they do learn, and brings them an excitement as well. I set my part from others because I really do care about my students, and I want to see them succeed
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, I have the main thing is willing to adapt. Before Covid, I was only doing in-person drum lessons. Once Covid started, I had to shift my business, and I started doing online drum lessons. At first, I was nervous, but U stood by it, and my business blew up I love it
