Daily Inspiration: Meet Habiba Raji

Today we’d like to introduce you to Habiba Raji.

Habiba, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started writing my song in 2019 when I was in high school. When I started, I didn’t know what I was doing. Before I found a beat to the song, I was over at Dallas for Christmas. My cousin has a mini room studio where he produces music and makes some music of his own. My siblings and I were downstairs, and he invited us to his room to freestyle on some beats he had, and then he just randomly asked if I had a song, initially, I forgot about the song and then I remembered and said, “oh yeah I actually do have a song” he asked about what song it was, I said, “it’s like a rap song” he looked at the lyrics and found a bouncy beat that goes perfectly well with it, which is a match made in heaven, that was how Lollipop was made.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Initially, when I had the song, I only had about two verses, and I didn’t know what else to write, so because of the events that were happening in my life at the time, it helped me write more. I was very nervous to drop the song initially but the outcome was way better than my nervousness.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started modelling when I was in high school, I participated in the National American Miss pageant show, I got third position in the actress competition which was really exciting. I got back into doing runway shows my second year of college. I have done about three shows now, and I’m currently on my fourth one. In college, I discovered I have a good listening ear when it comes to music and what song to play next, and that’s how I became a DJ. DJing to me is fun. I learnt very quickly how to do transitions just by listening without headphones. That’s also how DJ Bibs really came about. However, it isn’t really what I’ve wanted to do; I have always wanted to be a singer and an actress which is crazy because my first single is a rap song, But I don’t want to be labelled as a rapper or a DJ I want to be labelled as an artist. There’s still more in store that I can do that I haven’t even discovered myself, and I am excited for that journey.

I am most proud of releasing my first single, I believe what sets me apart from everyone is my drive, wanting to learn more and not limiting myself to what I can do, also working on improving myself and becoming better at what I do.

What matters most to you?
I believe in becoming better than I was yesterday, improving myself and my craft. It is really important to me because if I can’t identify what I need to improve then there’s no progress.
