Today we’d like to introduce you to Helen Tran.
Hi Helen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Helen! I am a 24-year-old photographer in the DFW area. I’ve always had an interest for photography and videography as a kid. My mom bought the family a digital camera and I would always take pictures and make little videos with my sister growing up. As I got older, I really enjoyed taking pictures for my friends and being told I always got “their right angles”. Eventually, I got a Canon camera of my own and started exploring photography while I was on a winter break from college. I started practicing and messaging my friends to model for me to build my portfolio. Now, a few years, I work as an ultrasound tech and also do photography on the side.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would like to say it’s been a smooth road all the way, but like any journey, there have been some bumps along the way. I think I struggled with confidence in the beginning and wanted every shoot to be perfect, from start to finish. I’ve learned that unexpected events can happen, and it is important to have adaptability and a good attitude to keep your clients (and yourself) happy. I believe I’ve learned a lot during every shoot, so I am grateful for any struggles I face because it has shaped me into the photographer I am.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I would like to say I am a very diverse photographer. I enjoy doing couples, family, boudoir, and even creative shoots. Ultimately, I want to give my clients memories they can look back on and genuinely be happy about. I am most proud of the opportunity to make people feel confident. I’ve shot a lot of clients who tell me that I capture them differently than other people and I make them feel super beautiful. I believe that everyone is beautiful, even if they don’t see it. Being able to show them how great they are makes me feel so blessed and happy. I think what sets me apart from others is that I want to be your photographer AND your friend. I can be professional, but also, I joke around a lot to make people comfortable. I want my time with clients to be enjoyable and a great experience.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I enjoy reading books and listening to podcasts to constantly improve myself. For podcasts, I enjoy Tom Bilyeu who always has amazing guest speakers on his podcasts. For books, I recommend “The Power of Focus” by Jack Canfield, “Manifesting with Alignment” by Ryuu Shinohara, and “The High 5 Habit” by Mel Robbins.
