Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Harrison.
Hi Ian, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Man… happy to… where to begin…
I guess it’s important to note that I’m from Austin and an 80s baby that grew up down there in the 90s, so… my filter for “normal childhood” was at best skewed and in all reality, a weird awesome ride into infinite possibility. So, growing up and living the way we all did then certainly molded my journey into music, art, ideation, and web3 architecture. I digress…
I started pressing buttons on keyboards and making any sounds I could on microphones earlier than I can even remember to be honest. I was always drawn to sound and percussion. I think I sat on my first drum set about 7 or 8, and we had our “neighborhood band” pretty much as a staple the whole time on Bellvue Ave.
So, music and creation, and community all became paramount at a super early age.
This trinity above is really what is the “glue” to my brand.
It’s ALL about how WE can create touchpoints. I. Real life and as we jettison into the future of immersive/experiential engagement through web3. Whether through gaming, social communities, or outright direct-to-consumer installations by brands, celebrity, and e-sports, the clear direction is creating communion utility.
What this drives is meaningful time/engagement … this leads to connection, which leads to resonance and impact. It’s all a part of the three “P’s” (People, Process. Product.).
This went a little left of the initial question, but this is the pillar of which I have grown my brand beyond just being a singular source of creation.
Music will always be first, but it’s about so much more than the self; it’s about incubation. That’s entirely what the MuensterVision project is.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Hahaha. No. It has NOT been a smooth road. Success is a series of squiggled lines and crumpled paper in a waste basket. It is tireless nights into months of deep dives and failure growth. Success is the silence of achievement before the crest of its impact. It’s never smooth. It shouldn’t be.
I’ve thrown spaghetti at the wall so many times. I’ve seen what sticks and what slips. Look, …money is one of the supreme challenges out the gate…. It’s next to impossible to pull off what you can envision when you’re boot-strapping the whole thing and front-loading the gambit. From merchandising to marketing to events and sit-downs. When you are trying to architect the future, there is no rubric on how to get there. It’s just “do and not try.” I’ve been a part of many brands, teams, groups, etc. I’ve learned so much from each of those experiences. Leaning in, showing up, and doing the work to yield something is crucial. The way we get there teaches us what we need if we are open to receive the lessons.
There are no rules to this. We create our own paths.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Wow. Another loaded one! Ok … hmmm. I think I’ll lean back in myself on the fact that we have to create our own path. I’ve spent so much time in different mediums and in different phases of life as an artist, primarily a musician but especially as creator of visual and post-edit collectibles (both physical and digital) I have got to think that what sets me apart is what sets me apart. It’s a bit existential, I suppose. Individualism is one of the only things that we truly “own” while we’re here. Being fortunate enough and in tune enough to have a medium to express this is a form of healthy catharsis. We all need those outlets. It helps balance the chi.
I think that I’m most proud of ALL of my work in web3 and especially on the WAX blockchain under the brand @Muenstervision on all things everywhere.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
These is no way there is just one. Hahah. Geez. I’m glad I prefaced with what I did now lol.
I think some of my favorite memories are messing with the sampler on the og Casio keyboard that me n my buddy Stewart had down the way… sneaking into the neighborhood pool at night… walking up the road to the Balards on medical parkway… and the first “up all night” Nintendo sleepovers where you didn’t want to be the first one out… (Yes, I learned the hard way… thx Lucas! lol)
Yeah. Oh… and on the shoulder’s concerts at Auditorium Shores!!!
