Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacie Washington.
Hi Jacie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was always a bit quirky, curious, and eccentric. I appreciated unusual art and developed a fondness that exists within the beauty in death. I’ve always been a bit of an artist. I believe I believe when I was 12, I saw this show called oddities. The first episode was about a woman who turned road kill into art and was truly an unusual paradigm for someone but I was fascinated.
Now I am working towards such a dream to make art and give reform to something once past.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. My art is niche and fairly unsettling to many. But art, I believe, should make one feel something. Finding my belonging and where I could thrive was my biggest challenge. I believe only recently have I finally got my footing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My art primarily specializes in insect displays. I as well hand make jewelry; something I’ve done and sold since childhood. And do decor pieces and mounts. As well as studio art projects. My giant framed skulls and a few of my paintings.
I think I certainly stand out at some events. But for the ones catered to my niche I’m often told my art style represents elegance in a nontraditional way. That it’s antiquated and gorgeous in aesthetic.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Joining oddity and horror art appreciation communities really. All of us little weirdos encouraging each other.
