Daily Inspiration: Meet Jah Born

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jah Born

Hi Jah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I played in the orchestra in grade school. At the age of 13, I started to make beats.

I Met Erykah Badu the early 90’s – and I produced her first single “On and On”

The single would soon ignite my career..it won a grammy for Best R & B performance, and also appeared on the Baduizm album which won album of the year.

As time progressed. opportunities to grow came.
I eventually became a part of Erykah Badu’s Band “The Cannabinoids” and also became a member of RC & The Gritz (who backed Erykah Badu as well)..

I went on to work with other notable artists on on stage and in the studio.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any long term journey..there were some challenges.
Untimely deaths of band mates, peers, or family, keeping a band or team on the same page and together, production credits issues, payment issues, contract negotiations, to name a few..

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a music producer, professional drum machinist, music production coach, dj, content creator, and thought leader.

I am most known for my music production work with Erykah Badu – which i am most proud of.

What sets me apart from others is that I created a genre of music called Neo-Soul. The single is considered the first song to represent beginning of the neo-soul genre.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My parents listened to great music, whether it was soul, jazz, salsa, reggae, disco, or funk.
Those weekend days when they played music stick out as one of my favorite memories.
