Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamaal Muhammad
Hi Jamaal , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I attend the University of North Texas in Denton where I am a senior and will be graduating this may. I started my dating podcast my junior year in October. I wanted to create a platform for people to express their thoughts on dating in modern times whether they are single, in an actual relationship or married. I didn’t expect the podcast to blow up around denton and some parts of dallas like it has but I am forever grateful. My sophomore year of college I changed my major to psychology Ive always been passionate about helping others and also discussing the dynamics of dating, relationships and marriages which is why after I receive my bachelors in psychology this semester I will be attending grad school for my masters in psychology and then attend doctoral school for my phd in psychology as well. I want to be a marriage counselor/psychologist. My minor in college is Journalism digital broadcasting. All of these are reasons why I started my podcast I just wanted to create a place where people had a voice. Since the podcast has started a lot of people on a day to day basis come to me in person, or they may even text me on instagram after they watch my show for relationship/dating advice. A lot of planning, research and editing goes into show productions. My plan is to continue to grow my podcast to make it the best that it can be.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It is not always a smooth road. I love what I do however keeping track of everyone who wants to come on my show can be challenging at times. Editing podcast clips can also be very time consuming amongst other things outside of the podcast that I do as well but thats where time management comes in.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I created/developed a dating/relationship podcast called “The Mind Vs Heart”. I specialize in discussing dating dynamics in modern times. I am most known for and proud of starting my podcast because I never thought it would blow up like it has where people are seeing me everywhere I go trying to get on the show. I am getting daily texts about individuals trying to get on my show. I am just grateful that I was able to develop a platform where people want to come on and have great/productive conversations about dating dynamics and relationships. I believe my passion and dedication to the topic of dating/relationships sets me apart from others because it’s not many people my age (22) that are having intellectual discussions and conversations like these about dating .
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would have to say Empathy. Empathy is what makes the environment of my show comfortable enough for people to want to talk and express themselves. It is what allows me to see people’s perspective and keep an open mind. Empathy is also what allows to me to give people advice because I am able to put myself in their shoes and truly see where they are coming from so I can help/be there for them.
