Today we’d like to introduce you to James Lockhart.
Hi James, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started for a sales rep company selling solar. I quickly realized there was a need for installers and the construction of the actual projects, so I created Texas Solar Solutions LLC (now known as Pulse Turnkey). Businesses like mine are needed in order to serve sales organizations who do not have the proper licensing, financing, and infostructures to have a fully integrated solar company. I was on the roof installing, all while ordering and picking up material, running appointments, pulling permits, and submitting for funds. For a while, it was myself and three other guys; we quickly deviated within our first six months to an EPC model (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction). What we started doing was implementing our team to be more focused on the actual logistics in the back-office process for sales organizations. Rather than lead sourcing or selling solar, our business model is based on serving the sales organization. We are their back office and their mules on the roof, working to complete their projects in a timely manner with top-notch quality. As we have grown, we have quadrupled our business every year due to this model. We look forward to growing it in the future more and more.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Being able to understand the pricing of systems, how you navigate through the permits, the HOAs, the utility providers, being able to make sure we are filing things properly for PTO (Permission To Operate), and being able to turn the system on. We have had a long run making sure the project process is as smooth as possible. We have definitely hit our hurdles, but we are thriving and have made great leaps of improvement to better serve our partners and our business as well.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are particularly known as being an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) partner for solar sales organizations. From point of sale, the sales organization hands over the project. We then proceed with ordering engineering plans, filing for permits, scheduling the install, ordering material, completing the install, getting it inspected, and submitting for PTO so the homeowner can turn their system on. We are best known for our speed of installation, all while keeping our quality. We have a diligence to our sales organizations and make sure any wrinkles are ironed out. The issue they have with other EPC partners is timeframe between the date of sale and actual installation, which also pushes their payout. We have built good report with cities, HOAs, and utility providers, allowing us to expedite permits and PTO. We also take care of any maintenance issues along the way.
We are family-owned and operated. We take pride in building a positive and wonderful work environment for our employees and our business. We are most proud of how we have grown tremendously in a short amount of time. Putting people in place to be able to complete as many projects as possible in a timely manner. We are happy to also serve other states such as OK, AR, LA, and IL while still holding that quality and speed.
What does success mean to you?
We define success by the total outcome of what we can produce for our team and employees. This will allow them to build and grow their legacy within their own family. Also being able to see that companies are onboarding with our dealer program. They believe and trust that our processes are working for other companies. This expands people’s knowledge on our company, Pulse Turnkey, and brings in more business. We are so excited to continue expanding!
