Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Ellis.
Hi Janet, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I had lost myself in the corporate world, believing I was only smart enough to do basic stuff! I finally “woke up”, realized I no longer wanted to be a part of that world, there had to be something out there for me to Be who I want to Be and love what I do. I walked away from the corporate world and had no idea what to do next. I started with baby steps which led me to different workshops that called to me, I found what called to me, I was certified as a facilitator in a number of different venues, which then led me to facilitate workshops, which then lead me to speak about the outcome of the workshops and tools that worked for me, which then lead me to become an Inspirational Speaker. As I traveled and spoke to many different individuals, I started studying different religions and spiritual aspects so I could have a better understanding and empathy for others, instead of judging them. After 4 years of studies, I was ordained as an Interfaith Minister. The next step was just completing and publishing a book, “Wake Up! Break the Generational Cycle and Be Yourself!” I share my life experiences, the tools that best helped me become a better and healthier person, offering this info to help others in any way I can.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hmmm, a struggle, oh yeah! I have heard constantly, “the experience is either a blessing or a lesson”, which I tell myself every step of the way. I grew up with parents that were alcoholics, it doesn’t just affect the alcoholics, everyone is affected by the behavior within the family, you either do what you learn or you do the opposite. I am determined to break the cycle in my generation and hope that it has an effect on future generations in some form. The book I wrote is to remind myself where I was, what I went through, and constantly have to practice, daily, the tools I share. It never ends, this will be a lifelong challenge to Be who I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
