Daily Inspiration: Meet Jaymie Bates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaymie Bates.

Hi Jaymie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Jaymie Leigh, I am known affectionately as Mrs. Nawlins. I am an artist manager, publicist, and p.r maven. Known for my down-to-earth personality that makes those around me feel at ease. My reporting style is laidback, and interviews feel more like a conversation between two friends. I have graced the red carpet at top events such as the BET Awards and the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans and have interviewed top celebrities.

The entertainment industry is far too frequently a wild frontier rife with ambiguities and illegal practices. I intend to alter that. I strive for total honesty and openness in my ongoing operations. By prioritizing my client’s requirements over my own, I want to do right by my clients by putting their needs before my own.

When I am not managing clients or mentoring PR professionals, you can catch me looking for my next project to dip my hands in. I make every effort to maintain my spiritual stability while charging fearlessly toward my dreams.

My community deserves credit for developing in me such a great work ethic and way of life. Being engulfed in the culture of New Orleans, from marching in Parade season to Supa Sunday to Essence festival to just walking down Canal Street and bumping into A-list celebrities, has put me in the position to be where I am at today. To be immersed in a culture of its own such as New Orleans is a beautiful thing. So, I leave you with this. I am an Algerian from the west side of New Orleans, the 1.5 as we call it. “Laissez les bon temps rouler”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. The struggle began in 2005 when Katrina hit New Orleans, and being displaced and labeled as a refugee was a lot to take in. I still struggle and battle with the aftermath of Katrina in my everyday life. Still trying to transition from black trash bags to a dresser because that’s all we know, and to date, almost 18 years later, it’s still a battle. But I’m thankful because if I would have stayed, I would have lost my unborn child, and she is with us today. I backed off the media scene after Katrina even with being in a different State such as Texas. And it is being stuck in a State of mind that you try to break loose from. But I have digressed so much and try my best to continue to do so.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

Yes, to simply pay attention to your surroundings. To be appreciative of the breath in your body and to cherish one another harder than you did yesterday. Additionally, to wash one’s hands whenever possible. I want to thank Voyage Dallas for such an amazing opportunity this was a dope interview.
