Daily Inspiration: Meet Jayson Castleberry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayson Castleberry.

Hi Jayson, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I started my modeling career less than a year ago. My friend sent me some castings for a couple local shows in Dallas and one in Houston, and after getting casted for all three, I walked in my first fashion show in April 2021. Something about modeling caught my attention and I have been hooked ever since. After the show, I began meeting and shooting with different creative photographers around the DFW area begin building my portfolio and gaining experience. Since my first show, I have now walked in several shows including some in New York. Not only have I walked in fashion shows, I have also gotten the opportunity to be published twice in a magazine that is distributed nationally. I was honored when they featured me on the cover for one of them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t! It has been a challenge figuring out how to balance my pursuit in modeling, classes for my Engineering degree, and a part-time job. Not only this, but I had to learn to be more confident being in uncomfortable situations. Before modeling I rarely took pictures of myself, so starting out I was awkward and didn’t say much. Learning to be comfortable with myself didn’t come easy, but it came with time. Rejection is also something models, especially models just beginning, have to deal with. You will get told ‘No’ a lot more times than you will get told ‘Yes’. It can get discouraging, so learning how to handle rejection and keep your poise is essential for this job.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As stated before, I am a junior at the University of North Texas studying Mechanical Engineering. This major is not easy, but it is rewarding. Becoming a well-known and successful model is important to me; so is completing my degree. I am most proud of myself for being able to keep with my studies as well as growing my modeling career. What sets me apart from others is my desire to learn what I need to know, in the classroom and the modeling industry. The knowledge I’ve gained so far has set me up for many opportunities that I never thought I would get.

How do you define success?
Success can be defined in many ways, but for me the goals that I set for myself and achieve is how I define success. Although I have didn’t achieve every goal I set for myself in my first year of modeling, The ones I have achieved still deserve recognition and to be celebrated with gratitude. Celebrating the victories, no matter how small, is more important than focusing on the losses.
