Today we’d like to introduce you to Jermia White.
Hi Jermia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
At the age of 2, I was diagnosed with a degenerative muscle condition known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). This placed many physical limitations on me, forcing me to use a wheelchair for maximum mobility and independence. I’ve always been ambitious and decided as a youth not to let physical challenges hinder me from living and loving life. From doing extra-curricular activities that my peers did to advocating on big stages for myself and others in my situation, God has worked many miracles through me.
Upon graduating high school and college, I had dreams of being a sports entertainment producer. I’ve had experience in almost every aspect of the sports entertainment world, from journalism and interviewing world renown athletes, graphic design, producing podcasts and live events, working at a news station, to working on the stats crew for collegiate and professional teams. God, my support system, and my community have granted me so many opportunities and I enjoy finding ways to show my appreciation in giving of myself back to them respectively. Breaking barriers for me to learn how to drive and getting my own modified vehicle has blessed me with independence and has enabled me to serve others.
Becoming a notary public seemed to be a way of earning some passive income in between sports seasons or when graphic design business isn’t so busy, but once I became a notary public, I saw that it was about more than passive income. This was about being serviceable to the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex. I’ve had clients from all walks of life, and I believe I’ve poured into them just as much as they’ve poured into me.
Today, I find myself doing it all—a jack of many trades, if you will. I’m still carving my mark in the sports world while keeping myself available and serviceable to my community, never allowing SMA to define me based on physical challenges and never losing sight of 1 Corinthians 10:31b which says “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God”.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Notarizing documents is simple. The challenges with running the business are layered. Obtaining my notary commission was just the beginning. I had to decide what services I wanted to offer and how I’d offer them.
Sure, I can create social media content—with graphic design expertise that’s easy, but it takes more than a social media presence. You’ve got to get out and shake hands with people because in this business, building trust matters—and that means showing up in person and having conversations. You must give people a reason to trust you with sensitive information.
Because I’m constantly on the go—balancing work, doctor’s visits, and therapy appointments—being a mobile notary made sense. It gives me the flexibility to meet clients before, after, or even between appointments. Balance is essential.
One of the biggest challenges is the lack of accessible, practical information about the notary business beyond the basics of notarization. Research is vital, and so is community. Connecting with others in the field has been valuable, but it requires discernment. Interestingly, newcomers often have fresh, helpful perspectives, while some veterans seem too relaxed in their practices.
This industry offers so many services and opportunities—but few are willing to share the full truth about what those services entail. As I continue to learn (because we are all ever-learning), I’m committed to passing that knowledge on. If someone else can grow from what I’ve figured out the hard way, then I know I’m doing something right.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Faith Works Notary Services, I provide dependable notary and apostille services, specializing in the handling of critical documents such as powers of attorney, affidavits, and other legal forms. Our apostille services are designed to offer peace of mind, alleviating the often-complicated process of authenticating documents for international use.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to genuinely connect with my clients. I understand that dealing with important paperwork can often be stressful, especially when life’s responsibilities feel overwhelming. My goal is to make the process as smooth, accessible, and stress-free as possible.
Many clients need documents notarized on short notice—or simply can’t travel to a notary office. That’s why I operate as a mobile notary, meeting clients wherever is most convenient for them. Whether it’s in a hospital room, their home, workplace, or even a fast food restaurant, I bring professionalism and flexibility to every appointment, always prioritizing the needs of those I serve.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an ambitious yet bashful child with a deep love for laughter and creativity. I was eager to try the things other kids my age were doing—whether it was singing in the church and school choirs, dabbling in acting on a children’s television show, or proudly earning the title in a youth beauty pageant. My interest in sports sparked early as well; I began by cheering for my community’s Pop Warner team and eventually joined my school’s cheerleading squad. By high school, I had stepped into the role of manager for the girls’ basketball team and combined my love for sports and storytelling by writing for the school newspaper.
