Daily Inspiration: Meet Joey Bakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Bakes.

Hi Joey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started making music when I was very young; my dad got me started into making music by buying me my first computer/ from there it was over! With FL studio, I started making beats and recording both myself and all the people in the neighborhood! My love for music grew in the pursuit of my career, and I took on more of an executive producer role becoming the vibe that gives artists what they need to create their best work. I’ve worked with Grammy award-winning artists in very high-class studios as well as trap stars in studios all throughout Dallas! My motivation is motivating others through both their work and mine!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! The road has been a tough one indeed. But in the face of adversity, I’ve learned to turn the struggles into opportunities, capitalizing on even the most negative of situations. One example is I recently got into a car accident, God was on my side, and I was uninjured, but my car being in the shop stopped me from being able to effectively run the Studio, book sessions, meet with clients, etc. Instead of seeing it as a week of problems, I used my time to work on my business and not for it. That’s just a small example there are others I’ve been homeless, I’ve slept on couches in streets and in studios; instead of wasting that, I used my wandering days to meet others and build strong lasting relationships with many people across Texas.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am Currently the Co-Owner/ Executive Producer & Lead Engineer of BFAM Records. I specialize in engineering/producing/writing/performing, I love interacting w others on a very deep and personal level, I am not a huge fan of small talk or charades. I’m known for encouraging others in the studio, shifting their focus from the outside world, and directing it into their music. I’m most proud of the artist I’ve had the pleasure of working with and mentoring. Just seeing them with their accomplishments and reaching their goals gives me the exact same satisfaction as me reaching mine. I feel like I am different from others because I am not in it for the bread; my mission is to truly make a difference in people’s lives and be a positive influence in the music industry.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t take my time for granted. But that is a lesson learned not explained.
