Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Williamson.
Hi Jonathan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was adopted into a family that are Doers. They Built homes, renovated homes, and when we would outgrow that home, we would pack up find a new house before repeating those steps all over again. Little did I know that everything I learned from my mom and dad would help me navigate my career path. Whether it was opening salons from the ground up in Dallas and south Florida, to moving to New York and finding my passion in sales, selling furniture, textiles, wallpaper, and more on the wholesale side to Interiors Designers and Architects.
During Covid, I decided to work from home at my parent’s house who lives out in Glen Rose, Tx, instead of being in my tiny shoebox of an apartment in Brooklyn. I packed a small suitcase, for what I assumed would be a two-week trip. Little did I know Two weeks turned into two years In Dallas. During that time, I found myself feeling unfulfilled and wondering, what are my next steps? After much soul searching, I realized with my background in sales and design, I found that I could bring my career full circle by getting my real estate license. My design knowledge gives me a great ability to communicate with home buyers and sellers allowing them insight that many realtors would not provide.
So here I am pursuing both of my passions one buyer/seller at a time
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
YES, the struggle is real! As much as I enjoy seeing the home tours on real estate-based reality shows. They barely scratch the surface of what it’s really like, for a new agent or even the day-to-day. Real estate is primarily based on relationships and networking and after you’ve been gone for the past 7 years and your next career move is based on relationships/ referrals you start to take inventory of friends and family. At first, I was a little sad being, like darn, I only have 4 friends LOL, but then you have to take a step back and look in the mirror and say if this is what you want then go out there reconnect with friends and not on Facebook!
The second thing I did was join a local organization, I joined Diffa Young Professionals as the social chair. Not only do I plan our social events it’s been a great way to network with like-minded individuals.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I grew up in the DFW area so there’s not an area that I won’t drive to. I grew up in Arlington, lived in Dallas, and spent a lot of time in Fort Worth. So, if you want, Highland Park, Oak Cliff, North Arlington, or wanting for a ranch-style home in Fort Worth I’m your guy! If you’re looking for a new build, I’ll help you pick out tile, et, are you a first-time home buyer, let’s get you those keys, If you’re looking for something turnkey, I got you! Since my background has been in design, I know what’s not going to age out, and I know what’s a shotty remodel or a Pinterest design board come to life.
My parents are currently looking at houses right now and I was showing them a few listings and I pointed some flaws out before they noticed. My dad said, “I taught you well son.”
At the end of the day, you want your buyer to be happy.
Besides using my knowledge of design when I’m talking with a buyer or designer, I like to bring causes that I’m passionate about. Right now, I’ve partnered with a local Great Dane rescue which I feature a Great Dane weekly who is up for adoption or foster!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
First, I would suggest on doing your research when joining a brokerage. See what they offer as an educational program. I would be lost without Keller Williams Urban. The first brokerage I joined had no education and I felt so lost.
Second would be is don’t spend money, do your homework, learn how to do it yourself, and be authentic.
And last, be kind.
