Daily Inspiration: Meet Jori Bowman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jori Bowman.

Hi Jori, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Geeky Girls Dallas started out as an idea on Shamonica Wiggins-Mayes’ heart. Longing for friends who loved anime, cosplaying, and geek culture as she did. She thought about creating a space for women to join her in exploring local events, concert, and other festivals. Meeting Jori Bowman sparked the courage to build that community as well as gaining the momentum of the dream of a safe space for women to talk about their fandoms freely. Next the idea of the ladies hanging out and making friend was coming true within a year. GG final founder is Erika Dotson, who had organized a dinner in another all women blerd group that brought Shamonica and her together. GG Admin team have built a beautiful and safe space where women across the DFW area can show up as their true authentic selves. Fully embracing their geekiness with others who do the same. We are so proud to create a Non-Profit Social Club that connects, celebrates and truly appreciate each woman for who she is. Letting every Geeky Girl know she is seen.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a joyful learning experience for us as a team. I believe with all of us working towards for the same goal is what keeps the peace amongst the team. We all express ourselves respectfully and resolve any issue with the logic of what best for the group’s health. We also encourage each other to achieve the personal goals we need to be aligned to give the group the attention it needs. That way when someone needs a break the flow isn’t disrupted. We are new in each other lives so we go into this with a learning mindset not a “know it all” thinking process. I believe that’s the key to getting through all the Geeky Girl responsibilities. Our willingness to learn for the growth of that dream to have the space is bigger than anything personally we have going on. The purpose is greater than us and we are happy to fulfill the task that in our hands.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Geeky Girls is a Non-profit organization whose main goal is in creating a safe space for woman online as well in person for ladies to connect. The online space provides the group with the freedom to talk about a wide range of things without judgment. From the latest shows their watching, promo their business, health/Wealth checks, as well as letting the ladies meet for local events that they were already going to. Encouraging the second point of the club. SAFETY is a main goal within the group. Helping the ladies not to explore Dallas alone. The groups’ purpose is safe connections, giving us the sense of security in being a woman while out having fun. Living life without the extra worries. Lately we have been able to host private meet ups and events for the Geeky Girls to come out to meet each other. We also have started hosting public events for those who live in Dallas looking for a safe space to have fun and find friends. All have been very successful; we are so excited to give Dallas more.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the range of events that Dallas has for is residents. There is always something to get into whether it’s for free or cost, family orientated, go solo or if I wanted to hang out with friends its available. The thing I like least about the Dallas is the hot spots parking also driving set ups. It’s not easy to navigate to the location once you get close to your destination. Downtown for sure is hard area to get some peace when it comes to parking. Clear instruction and directions will help. I suggest labeled parking areas for off limit parking areas. Some changes to get clarity to keep Dallas flowing and growing.
