Today we’d like to introduce you to “DJ hokage” Josh Conrad.
Hi Josh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I picked up dj’ing in 2017. It all started with my friends a couple of them were rappers and I just wanted to find a beneficial role so I could contribute to our success as a whole. That’s where the idea was planted later that year I went to my first festival called something wonderful and I guess you can say that’s where the enlightenment was and I knew I wanted to be a dj just the way you can control the energy of the crowd and you are literally the LIFE of the party. I always had that gift of entertaining and just being that energy for people so in a sense, I felt like it was meant to be.
I also turned 21 in 2017 so it was the first time I was able to actually go into night clubs so I got to experience club dj’ing and that as well was also something I felt like I wanted to do I went to 7th street a lot and got to know a couple DJ’s (papa ace and dj toro) they were really cool and gave me tons of advice and help that has for sure help me be in the position I am today. Dj Ari also is a big reason I even got to play in Dallas he’s been a huge help and getting these opportunities he’s a really good guy for sure super grateful he’s a friend of mine. A lot of my opportunities have just come from me being a people person and not being afraid to reach out to others in the industry and network. My journey is just beginning but I’m proud of where I have made it so far and even more excited for where I know I can take myself on my path.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been smooth, especially with covid all of 2020 was pretty much capped off there were still opportunities but it’s been limited but I’m still blessed and thankful for the chances I have gotten to play in downtown Dallas which was a big goal of mine for 2020. Another thing is it’s a process like anything else so when you can feel discouraged because you aren’t getting the gigs, you have to just make sure you are prepared because your opportunity will present itself and you want to make sure you are ready. “Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation.”
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a dj taking steps to also becoming a producer in the near future. I would like to think I’m known for just being a good and ambitious person who also knows how to have a good time and create great moments for and with people. Something I’m most proud of is just where I’ve come in dj’ing before 2017 it wasn’t even an idea and to make it to being able to play in clubs in Dallas and have a realistic opportunity for my name to be up there with some of the cities DJ’s at the best clubs is a proud achievement in my eyes but only the beginning it just makes me hungrier because I want to be at the top.
How do you think about happiness?
Execution makes me happy… when you are able to plan something or have a vision and take the steps necessary to make whatever it is come to life just to see those results, I think is something that makes me truly happy inside because nobody can take that away from you. Also, my son makes me super happy as well he’s only ten months but he’s full of light he’s changed my life and I know he will change many more I’m just happy to be his dad.
