Daily Inspiration: Meet Josh Yen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Yen.

Hi Josh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In early 2017, my wife and I were trying out a new restaurant in Old Town Lewisville. After lunch, we walked around Old Town talking about how great it would be if one day a church was planted in that area. A seed was planted that day which would lie dormant for a few years. Slowly, a sprout came forth as we felt the call to plant a church in this community.

Lewisville has been our home for the majority of our marriage. From the small, one bedroom apartment we began in, to our home now in Northwest Lewisville, we have planted roots in this community.

When the Lord called us to plant a church in early 2021, we found our thoughts coming back to Lewisville. The Lord kept bringing people into our path who needed to experience the life that Jesus alone could provide. Quickly, He began to grow our love for these people and this place.

We are excited for what the Lord is doing in Lewisville and are excited for all He will do in the years to come!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new church is never easy. I heard one church planter say it takes a million little (and not so little) miracles to make it happen. Almost 4 years in, I don’t think he was exaggerating. New challenges, changing circumstances, with people flowing in…and out…is hard at times for sure. On top of that, I don’t feel naturally inclined to this at all. I am far from the entrepreneurial type.

But as I felt the Lord’s call to do this, I couldn’t say no. I still can’t. The promise of Him going with me was too good to pass up. The obstacles and challenges we’ve faced make us ever dependent on the Lord’s help. We often talk about how if He doesn’t move, we’ve got nothing. We really mean that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am first and foremost pastor…a shepherd. Someone who oversees the spiritual care and development of souls.

I do this by trying to stay as close as I can to the best shepherd—Jesus. Then, in His presence and in His power, I guide people—exploring, embodying, and explaining the way of Jesus.

I am far from perfect in this. But by His grace I have the great privilege of learning the way of Jesus right alongside them.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
As a kid coming from a broken home, all I wanted in life was stability. A good job, a good family, and to be really, really rich 🙂 I remember playing doctor or lawyer as a kid dreaming of what life would be like when I grew up.

I have a good job, a good family, and well….the riches are quite there…but the Lord has always provided what we need and more.
