Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Lucero.
Joshua, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Joshua Lucero. I am the founder of the Herb’n Swigg organic juice company. I started my journey when I was about 9 years old. My father was an avid juicer (mainly carrot juice); therefore, I was only allowed to drink juiced beverages other than water. One day I came home and did not want carrot juice anymore, so I decided to go into the kitchen and mix some of my mom’s superfoods and fruit into a blender and produced a much better-tasting beverage. I got excited about it and started experimenting with more flavors and sharing with my family, friends, and now the community. I know in the urban communities, we do not have many healthy options when it comes to organic juice and beverages, and I want to change that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. It is very difficult to get the proper certifications to sell bottled juices in the United States. It is a huge liability, especially dealing with organic products. We have overcome this and now we are able to do what we love
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a 13-year-old kidentrepreneur. I love working with my mom in our lab mixing different herbs and juices and brewing kombucha. It’s almost like a microbiology lab when we are working on the kombucha tea. What sets me apart from others is that I really want to see people in my culture live longer and healthier lives without diabetes and high blood pressure and other diseases. I know I am not a doctor, but I hope my juices and kombucha can help.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like that there a many people of different backgrounds that I can meet and learn from. Where my mom is from there is no diversity. I don’t like the crime here in Dallas.
