Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaee Thee Loctician.
Kaee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since a child, I’ve always been passionate about what I do; I’m from HuSTLe City (St. Louis, MO), I’m Jamaican, and I’m a Gemini (Juneteenth Baby). The triple trifecta of a creative hustler by any means! I started working right out the gate at 16, I graduated early and started working 2 jobs at a time by time I was 21, I had 20+ jobs. I never really did well with authority and people controlling me cause I’ve always been determined of what I truly wanted! At 18, I hoped into entrepreneurship headfirst. Originally, I sold hair growth oil. When I moved on from that, I became a Lash Wholesaler. Moved on to become a Private Chef, and then at 21, I finally found my true passion of Locs and the art of making overnice “Dreads” into beauteous Locs; I’ve “did hair” since middle school, but Seeing myself do hair full time was never in my dreams but it became my reality once I did my first official retwist in August of 2021 I never realized how good I would become and how much I would accomplish almost 2 years later! I’m now an Award-winning Master Loctician. I can only thank GOD, my clients, and myself for how far I’ve come. I’m truly blessed, and I’ll be opening my own salon very soon. I can’t manifest that enough!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! I’ve had several instances happen that made me wanna stop doing hair period! I think the one that really almost broke me but really made me 20 times stronger was when I was doing a travel appointment, and they didn’t wanna pay (only $100). He spit on me and beat the crap outta me causing me to have a concussion. All of this was because he felt my service wasn’t worth it and tried to give me ($20) for 15 Loc repairs, retwist, and rope twist. I was so devastated that this even took place. I’m one of those people that I know I will get the money back one way or another, so I don’t need to use force to get what I need. Right then and there sitting in the hospital, all I could do was cry. I think about that day almost every other day because it was only 6 months ago! If he ever reads this, I just want him to know, you didn’t do nothing but make me grind harder and make sure I keep my legal strap on me. I made a promise to myself that won’t ever happen again!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a master loctician; I specialize in everything Loc’d! I’m most proud of myself; honestly, I’ve came along way. I never seen myself here, but I’ve always seen myself at the top, so it’s only lining up together now!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Other than myself! GOD and my clients, and I MEAN ONLY GOD AND MY CLIENTS! I wouldn’t have nothing without faith! Faith that God holds me in his hands, Faith that clients will love me, my work, and my consistency for them to always wanna come back and support! If I didn’t have all 3, I would not be as successful as I am today!
