Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamari Lundon.
Hi Kamari, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Started DJing after going to a close friends’ concert while they were in town in 2015. The energy of the show & my friend performance really inspired & encouraged me to get on it asap. I had no idea how I was gonna get DJ equipment or even a laptop. I was so anxious to start that I actually got and used a credit card to get everything! From that point on I taught myself how to Dj watching YouTube. I started making mixes on SoundCloud of underground artists that I really loved. To my surprise my mixes were getting thousands of plays which made me want to keep putting out a new mix monthly. I started making friends with upcoming/underground artists by chopping & screwing their songs for them. made great friendships that way! I’ve always had a thing for putting people onto new music so DJing was just the perfect answer for something I wanted to do in the industry. I would also try to help artists with their online platform. Help them meet producers or anyone in the industry that could potentially help them! This is how I met Che Ecru who is now my best friend/brother. I loved his music so much that I wanted to help him out in every way possible. I started having artists coming out of nowhere wanting me to listen to their songs & help them too. Fast forward I moved to LA & met a great group of people I call my family now. Being in LA I’ve been in the right places at the right time with the right people. I’m able to DJ whenever I want at my friend’s residency in DTLA. My next goal was to go on tour with an artist. Iv been blessed to have crossed paths with one of my favorites artists Jean Deaux! I am now going on tour with with her this spring! I’m currently learning how to produce & engineer/mix songs so I’m excited to see how far I go with that!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road but also not difficult. I feel like everyone can get stagnant at times & have self-doubt. or even want to give up because you feel like no one sees you. I’ve always felt like nobody saw me & still struggle with that. but isn’t that how it always is before your dreams come running to your front door?
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known for being a DJ. I’m very proud of how far I’ve come physically (moving to LA by myself) & mentally!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The role of “luck” seems to have always been by my side which is crazy. looking back at who I know, who iv crossed paths with & where I am right now. I can say that there is some luck there.
