Daily Inspiration: Meet Karla Sandoval

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Sandoval

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a dancer since before I knew what dance was, I always loved to move to any music and let myself go.
When I was 9 years old was when I discovered jazz and hip hop and there has been no stopping since then, I became a competition dancer for many years back in Mexico City, winning countless dance competitions as a group and soloist, which led me to meet amazing people that will show me more of the dance industry. So by the time I finished high school, I knew I wanted to pursue this professionally, and against all odds, I was able to move to NYC to study at Peridance Center a prestigious school that has been around NY for many years, I knew it was not going to be easy but I did it anyways and now, a year after graduation I know it was worth it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Things are not as easy as they seem, moving to a different country, and trying to get into an industry that I thought I knew but ended up being completely different was a shock, I have tried my best to stay motivated and positive in every situation but sometimes the city can be a lot and it gets hard. It has taken a lot of perseverance and passion to keep doing what I do, and even though I’m not yet in the place where I want to be I have no doubts it’s closer than I think.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to describe my dance as a fusion of everything I have learned over the years, I am so passionate about dance and I like to learn from many different styles and people from all over the world, which has led me to create my style and my way of expression through. movement. My movement is based on a contemporary foundation with elements from, hip hop, popping, waacking and house dance

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Everything happens just at the right time, there have been many moments in my journey where I questioned myself or how things were going to work out, and without thinking and minimal effort things just fell into place one after the other, I believe things come to you at the right moment and the right place, always.
