Today we’d like to introduce you to Katya Salazar.
Hi Katya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
First of all my name is Katya Salazar I am 30yrs old, I am a mother of 3 beautiful kids, had a rough childhood, grew up without my mom and dad. My grandmonther raised me and my sister, it was devastating when my grandmother passed away, i was 13yrs old and i had to come to the USA to be with my mom, cause i had no one else to take care of me and my sister, it was very difficult to come to a new country and leave your childhood friends, family and roots, i always loved school and i knew i wanted to be someone in life, but life it self had other plans for me, i had to drop out of school at the age of 15 cause i had to work to help my mom pay bills and stuff. I left my moms house when i was 17, even tho i never wanted to do that, i had to because we didnt have a good relationship, basically we didnt know eachother that much but when i came here i had hope that i was finally going to have a family, but i was wrong, once time is gone, you can’t recover it, and thats okay that helped me become the person, and the mother i am today. I still love my mom dearly and pray for her all the time. I had my first baby at 18 and i just dedicated my time to my kid and work, i had my second child at 21 and my daughter at 22, when i was pregnant with my daughter i went and got my GED cause i knew its never too late to pursue a career and continue my education, when my daughter started pre-k i was 25 and i was scrolling through instagram and saw this video of an esthetician that was able to help this teenager girl get rid of her acné, I was amazed by the change and impact that esthetician made on that girls life , she literally gave her her identity and her confidence back.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was not easy at all i had to drive 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon to school. my husband was not supportive of me going back to school and further my education, so i knew i was on my own, so i started working cleaning houses, cooking for elderly people, doing peoples laundry to be able to pay for my esthetician school , while still be a full time mom and wife , and also take care of everything in the house cause my husband now ex husband used to work out of town all the time, he would only come home like twice a month and just for like the weekend, so it was hard for sure.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
