Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Vaughan.
Hi Kelly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My personal real estate “journey” began in 2011 when my husband and I began purchasing investment properties. It was during this venture that my husband decided to get his real estate license to make our ability to gain access to prospective properties easier. He enjoyed that and decided to persue real estate full time. Once he did that, he began to talk to me about doing real estate together. At the time, I was still working in nonprofit fundraising. I finally joined him in 2014 and we formed The Vaughan Team. Our goal was and is to educate and empower our clients to make life changing real estate decisions. Whether we are helping them buy, sell, or invest in real estate, we want them to understand the process and have the information they need to make the best decision possible for themselves and their families. For most people, a personal home is the most valuable asset they possess and as such they deserve to understand what is going on and feel comfortable with it. This is a responsibility we take seriously.
In 2024, we added two incredible members to our team- our operations manager Barbara and our buyer agent, Sharon. These two ladies have increased our ability to serve our clients, allowing us to better enhance the experience our clients have when they work with our team. We consider our team members and our clients family. Because we are a husband and wife team, we take family seriously. Our 15-year old son in already planning to get his real estate license when he turns 18 and wants to join us in the business. We are delighted that he is taking an interest… but if I am honest, it’s not like he really stood a chance. He hears us talk real estate ALL THE TIME!
In addition to the love and care we give our clients, we feel a responsilbility to give back to our community- making sure McKinney and Collin County stay great places to live and work. Our team is active in supporting a number of charities including those around breast cancer, hunger/homelessness, and older adults. I proudly serve as an active member of the Junior League of Collin County and as a board member for the Wellness Center for Older Adults and my son and I regularly volunteer at the Samaritan Inn.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If anyone says that creating a business and building it is easy, they aren’t exactly being truthful. 🙂 Real estate especially. Our road has hardly been smooth, but we have been able to persevere. There have been seasons when the business takes priority and others when family does. Finding a balance between the two is challenging. That combined with market fluctuations make this a challenging industry. But perseverance pays off and we can’t imagine doing anything else.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the team leader and listing specialist for our team. I specialize in helping sellers maximize their return on investment for their properties. I handle everything for our sellers related to marketing, negotiations, and contract timelines. One of the things that sets us apart is the digital marketing that we do for our clients. We leverage video and social media to ensure maximum exposure for our clients’ homes. I am also responsible for making sure our team of 5 operates smoothly and our clients are statified with our work.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think that there have been two qualities that are essential to our success – persistence and authenticity. We stay on top of things and make sure the job is done well and we are “real” with our clients. We work hard to be professional, but we also tell our clients the truth- as hard as it can be to hear sometimes. I have had more than one client tell me that they chose us because we “aren’t like most real estate agents” and they feel like they are working with family when they work with us.
