Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Netters.
Hi Kevin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
“Big Daddie THE DJ…That’s MY DJ”
Music has truly been my life story. During my very early years, I was surrounded by huge influences, in addition to tons of great musicians from my hometown of New Orleans, LA. I was introduced to the craft of DJing at the age of 12 by a close family friend, Ulric Woodfork. I swear at that moment, I truly found my passion but never imagined it would evolve into a profession. During middle school, high school, and college, I thoroughly studied the DJ craft and continually practiced and worked to improve the fundamentals of DJing, such as scratching, mixing, and crown engagement. After graduating from college and while working in the corporate sector, I had the opportunity to travel the United States from coast to coast. These travels helped me learn about new music genres and the importance of song delivery and set diversity. In 2008, I bet on myself and took a leap of faith, retiring from the corporate sector to become a full-time DJ. To this day, I remain consistent in practice sessions and knowledgeable about new music trends. I love the idea of being the reason why my clients and their guests have a great time. DJing in the DFW market provides endless opportunities as it is a melting pot of cultures. Solid DJ skills and appealing to diverse audiences are keys to success in the DFW Metroplex.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As with any profession, there are obstacles and challenges. However, with my solution-based mindset, I turn them into growth opportunities and valuable learning experiences. Throughout my DJ career, two main challenge areas have been staying abreast of technological advancements and reliable music sourcing.
Technology advancements of DJ equipment and software programs have made so many key tasks easier and lightened my physical load. Unfortunately, staying up to date with the DJ tools is a critical obstacle that requires constant education and financial investments. Seasoned DJs that have evolved with the craft have endured the painful journey from using analog vinyl records to cassette tapes to compact discs (CD) to digital MP3s to now music streaming options and the return to vinyl records. It is a fact that a large number of good DJs exited the business because of the time, lack of patience, and resources needed to stay on the ever-changing DJ technology journey. It is truly a full-time job where one could be left behind in a flash. It is safe to say that dedication to the craft is required.
Music Sourcing: My most challenging obstacle for decades was my inability to consistently, cost-effectively, and safely source music in the proper format required to satisfy clients. In my early DJing years, if you were not a radio station DJ or very well connected in the music business, it was almost impossible to secure the new music of the day. Many of my fellow DJs experienced this same obstacle for years. This reality led to an amazing opportunity for me as I was inclined in 2007 to create and launch my company VirDiKO.com, a web-based Music Delivery Service for Professional DJs that literally leveled the playing field for all DJs. My VirDiKO.com team, consisting of DJ Dre, Lady C, and my son Kevin Jr., are all laser-focused on helping the company be the trusted and premier music source solution for professional DJs around the world. VirDiKO.com proudly serves thousands of professional DJs in more than 100 countries on a daily basis. My greatest satisfaction is offering a proven solution for the age-old obstacles of fellow DJ’s not having access to the music needed to effectively perform their job. VirDiKO.com also serves as a cost-effective solution for major record labels and independent artists to distribute their new music safely to the global VirDiKO DJ database of professional DJs.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
My Work: Once again, music is my life story as a full-time DJ who owns and operates VirDiKO.com. Thankfully, these two awesome businesses work hand in hand and keep me sharp in the craft. They are always ready to entertain audiences of all genres, from elementary school classes to corporate events, weddings, receptions, music festivals, and more. I am blessed to have found my passion for music and the craft of DJing at an early age. I encourage everyone I come in contact with to find that one thing that they truly love and pursue it to the fullest.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
#IDoItForMyPeople
I sincerely appreciate the motivation and encouragement from all of my supporters. The art of DJing is extremely satisfying for me and I always look forward to working with current and new clients in all types of settings while leaving a lifelong impression. Being hired as the DJ by a company or someone’s special event is truly an honor, and I take that very seriously. I believe that as a DJ, “It’s Not All About You… But It’s All On You,” and that requires professionalism and preparation. On the VirDiKO.com side, I always look forward to hearing new music and helping our clients increase awareness of their artists and new music. Being THE solution in a craft I love is an amazing feeling.
