Today we’d like to introduce you to Kween Jai
Hi Kween, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Tyler,Tx a mom of a handsome son and motherhood can be a lot but he pushes me like no other. I went to school for photography and then I started out doing photo shoots and it i seen how i was able to bring life into others so i decided to get in front of the camera and see how that felt. After a few years i decided to take modeling more seriously. I started doing fashion shows and photo shoots here and there. I started to find my place as a short model 5”1” to be exact. I look up to Eva Marcel because she was singled out as a short model but yet she showed everybody that she maybe shorter but her presence will be known. After finding my name and my niche in the fashion world, i became a brand ambassador for friends and then i found SpenceCockyGear. After joining I started to get more opportunities and networking with new people and where i found my photographer (torylavine_photography). Now I’m looking into building a molding company for young adults to the very mature adults all shapes and sizes who are wanting to get in the fashion industries and showcase their talents.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, this journey has not been easy whatsoever. I had to learn how to take rejection better and deal with not being tall enough. Being 5”1’ is not easy at all! You either don’t get picked for shows at all or you only get maybe one designer that will give you a chance. It can be very disappointing or dis encouraging at times. Also dealing with depression and anxiety is tough as well. Some days are better than others but i still pray and ask God to guide me through. My mom and dad are really there for me in my time of need, they always are telling give it to God and let him work it out in your favor! That as stuck with me since a kid.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I call myself a creative artiste because not only do i model and photography, I dance as well. Dancing as and will always be my #1 passion. I feel so free when i dance. Just like modeling i can be someone else for a few mins and not have a care in the world!!
Im proud of myself for continuing to be myself and never changing who i am. It’s only one me why not act like it! Huh? I have overcame A LOT of obstacles and im still PUSHING through.
What sets me apart from others, I stay true to myself. I keep a pure heart and still love on others even when others don’t like me. I will still be Kween Jai. I don’t have to put anyone down to pick myself up. Im always encouraging to be better and do better.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE NOT ENOUGH!! Never let ANYONE tell you that you can never be what YOU are put on this earth to do. Don’t dem your light because someone is doing better. Go talk and network they may can help you and teach you something you didn’t know. Take every opportunity as a learning experience. ALWAYS KEEP GOD FIRST. He is the reason i am still going and pushing. Last PUSH (Pray. Until. Something. Happens)
I wish someone would have told me these things growing up, but i talk to my inner child and I tell her we gon be good i got us! I will make us PROUD!!
