Today we’d like to introduce you to La La Musiq.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a national recording artist and songwriter born in Shelby, Mississippi and raised in Oklahoma City, OK. I have had a passion for singing and songwriting since a very early age. My love for music continued after college when I began singing in the choir at my local church based in Dallas, Texas, back in 2013. I then started writing gospel songs for my church and other churches in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Over the years, this leads me in 2018 to start writing my very first album with my producer Silverdolla Beats as an independent artist.
In June 2019, my debut album titled Set Apart was released on all major digital platforms nationally and internationally. In 2020, I became the recipient of The 2020 Female Emerging Artist of the Year award with The International Singer-Songwriter Association! I am a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) and ISSA (International Singer-Songwriter Association). I am a wife, mother, businesswoman, and most importantly, a servant of The Highest God and will continue to spread his word through praise and worship music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. As an independent artist, you are investing in yourself financially. I literally started from scratch in building out my brand through music and social media. At one point, I didn’t even know if my album was going to be released on time due to some personal challenges with my team.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a recording artist and songwriter in the genre of contemporary gospel music. I specialize in creating praise and worship anthems about the wonderful works of God. I am most proud of my accomplishment of winning The 2020 Female Emerging Artist of the Year Award through The International Singer-Songwriter Association. What set’s me apart from others is that I write and arrange all of my songs entirely, leveraging the bible as spiritual inspiration! I have a passion for uplifting people in the world and it is displayed through my music which is quite set apart! What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is to be patient as things may not happen when you expect them to. I am someone that creates a plan and executes it! However, God showed me that everything is in his hands and that I must trust in him and not lean on my own understanding. He has shown me that when he has something ordained for you to do it will happen according to him.
