Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Voth.
Hi Lacey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Photoshoots and modeling was always a passion of mine. It started when I got to college. A friend needed some help building their photography portfolio, and I had no experience whatsoever. I was very nervous and not quite sure how to pose. Thankfully, my friend was patient and walked me through the whole process. When we saw how the photos turned out, I loved it. I wanted to help photographers create and bring their vision to life. Over the next few years, I worked with local photographers in town and small business owners to develop more marketing. It quickly became a hobby and a field of work I genuinely enjoyed. Eventually, I graduated from college and also obtained my master’s degree. Started working at a corporate job and did modeling here and there on the side. This past year, I realized how much I missed working with photographers and creating beautiful images. I finally took to the internet and applied to an agency. They set me up with Studio 1 Talent Specialists, and from there, my modeling career started. It’s been challenging, and I am still learning every day, but it makes me happy to do something I used to think I couldn’t. I absolutely took a leap of faith this past year and I am currently still working a full-time job, all while putting my effort and time into modeling every chance I get. I am going to continue to work hard and trust the process. It will take time, but I am more than excited for the journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It currently is still a learning curve. I am new to modeling as a career, and I am constantly doing research, trying to market to reliable brands, work with photographers to help grow their portfolio and learn how I can be better as a model/client. The hardest part has been trusting the process and not giving up, even when there seems to be no work coming my way. However, putting in the work and finding the business has taught me more than I thought possible when I first started. It will take time, and I know believing that it will all work out the way it is supposed to helps keep me dedicated and patient with where I am meant to be.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Even though I am a new independent model, I still have a full-time job in healthcare. I earned my Master’s in Neuroscience, and now I am managing surgeons, physicians, and facilities in my area helping get patients on with therapy. I love helping patients and family get the best care possible. I am most proud of my master’s degree, but also the journey healthcare and modeling together have brought me. I have learned as an individual to stay disciplined, remain hopeful, and keep trying. To never give up on myself, even if it seems out of reach to other people. Growing as a person and professionally in my career is something I will always remind myself to be proud of. I would like to note I am also huge on health, wellness, and fitness. I had some health problems after COVID, and when I started researching proper nutrition, fitness, and women’s health, I have seen significant improvements. I constantly work on fueling my body with the right nutrients, make sure to get in some workout (Pilates, weight training, etc.) even when I don’t feel up for it, and most importantly, I make sure to manage my stress levels. Modeling has shown me so many ways to love who I am and to be kind to my body. I used to nit-pick any photo because of small things that truly, no one even saw or paid attention to. Now, I am just me in every shoot. I let my personality show and just remind myself how blessed I am to be here. Makes the shoots so much more enjoyable, and the photos come out amazing. I try to stand out by my personality and empathetic nature. I want to make sure everyone is having a good time, and with any work I do, I remain professional, abiding by the vision and dream of what the photographers/brands want.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
COVID. I believe hit every single person a little differently. I don’t just mean the virus itself, even though it did, I mean society as a whole saw the detriments and saw how precious life really is. Personally, I shifted my mindset after COVID. I saw life be taken, and I saw families grieve. Life truly is so precious, and we do take it for granted. COVID taught me to live in the moment. Do not worry about what has yet to come, it robs you of the current. I learned to hug those closest to me and to never leave anything up for regret. I would rather live knowing I tried, I conquered, I failed, I loved, I learned, etc., than ever wonder, “What if.”
