Today we’d like to introduce you to Litsie Monier.
Hi Litsie , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Litsie Monier. I am a dancer, choreographer and the founder of Saylit Dance Collective. I started building Saylit in april 2024. It started just as dance piece for an International Dance Festival that I got invited to perform in : Ladies Of HipHop Festival in New York City. From this piece was born an interest of doing more and develop a space that represent us, where we can be safe and ready to explore… Today, we are about to finish our summer season, we have been prtouring all summer with Queensboro Dance Festival with more then 7 dates in Queens. We are now entering into our fall season that started beautifully with a performance at Green Lung for their first edition of their 4:15 showcase!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is a smooth road that’s why we enjoy this job so much! The hardest part for me is always the budgeting. How do you know how much to spend on costume, on dancers, on studio space,… But it’s always worth it in the end when you see the final product of the work!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Saylit Dance Collective is a company based in New York City, more precisely in Astoria, Queens. our way of expressing our art is dance, movement. We are know for being internationals and womens ! I am so proud of how we grew as a team, I have wonderful and talented dancers, it’s the most wonderful thing. To be able to create and see your movements being interpreted by other movers makes it so unique!
What matters most to you? Why?
Freedom and Safety, I want the company to be a safe space to express in a free way your emotions and thoughts!
