Today we’d like to introduce you to Lloyd Terry III.
Hi Lloyd , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am Lloyd I. Terry III, a third-generation photographer with a deep passion for capturing life’s most meaningful moments. My journey began at age 13 with a disposable camera in hand, documenting everyday moments with the curiosity only a kid could have. By eighth grade, I was shooting with my first SLR, captivated by the ability to control light and composition. But like many young creatives, I set the camera aside in high school as life pulled me in different directions. It wasn’t until college—photographing campus life—that I truly reconnected with photography. After graduation, I once again paused my pursuit to focus on building a career and starting a family. Eventually, life brought me back to the lens—first through photographing bodybuilding shows, then church events, and ultimately weddings. Each step brought new challenges and growth, shaping the photographer I am today. Through it all, I’ve rediscovered and leaned into my passion, refining my craft with formal training from the New York Institute of Photography and staying connected with fellow creatives through the Dallas chapter of the Professional Photographers of America. My path hasn’t always been linear, but it’s been deeply rewarding—and it continues to fuel my drive to preserve stories through timeless, authentic imagery.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road back to photography hasn’t been without its share of challenges. Like many creatives, I’ve wrestled with confidence in my own work—questioning whether my vision was strong enough or if my images were good enough to stand beside others in this field. Finding a lane I could truly call my own took time, experimentation, and a lot of internal dialogue. There were seasons when I felt lost creatively, unsure of where I fit in the wide world of photography. Add to that the everyday pressures of life—career shifts, family responsibilities, and the need to simply keep going—and it hasn’t always been easy to stay connected to the craft. But through those highs and lows, photography kept calling me back. Every shoot, every client, every story helped rebuild that confidence and shape a clear sense of purpose. What once felt uncertain has now become a passion I embrace fully, not just with skill, but with a deeper understanding of why this work matters.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Photography, for me, has always been more than just capturing images—it’s about preserving emotion, telling stories, and holding space for moments that would otherwise pass too quickly. My work is rooted in a deep love for documenting life with honesty and heart.
I specialize in wedding, portrait, and event photography, and I’m known for creating images that feel timeless, natural, and full of emotion. Whether it’s the quiet glance between newlyweds, the pride in a father’s eyes, or the electricity of a competition stage, I strive to capture moments that move people. My style blends storytelling with classic composition—grounded in technical skill but driven by intuition and connection.
What sets me apart is the journey that shaped me. From shooting disposable cameras as a teen to putting down the lens during high school and eventually rediscovering it in college, photography has been a thread I’ve picked up many times. Each return brought new perspective. I’ve wrestled with self-doubt, creative direction, and life’s everyday demands, but I’ve always come back to the camera—stronger and more certain of my voice. Formal training through the New York Institute of Photography and my involvement with the Dallas chapter of Professional Photographers of America have helped sharpen both my eye and my confidence.
One of my proudest moments recently was winning two first place awards from the Dallas PPA for my wedding photography. Not just because of the recognition, but because it affirmed that the emotion I pour into this work resonates. That’s ultimately what I’m most proud of: creating images that people feel—ones that become part of their story.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I firmly believe that no journey worth taking is ever walked alone. As the African proverb says, “Those who want to move fast walk alone. Those who want to walk far walk together.” My path as a photographer has been shaped and supported by a community of people who’ve walked with me, challenged me, and lifted me along the way.
First and foremost, I have to credit my father, Lloyd Terry Jr., for placing a camera in my hands and training me in the fundamentals from an early age. He also gave me my first real opportunity by allowing me to shoot backstage at bodybuilding events—those early moments taught me how to capture raw, real emotion in chaotic, fast-paced environments. That foundation is still with me today.
I’m also incredibly grateful to Kory Sebastian, who has been instrumental in showing me the ropes of wedding photography. His mentorship helped me transition from shooting casually to telling full wedding-day stories with purpose and precision.
My former church home deserves recognition as well. For over two years, they gave me the space to develop my skills and artistic eye by trusting me to capture worship services and community events. That trust helped me grow in confidence and taught me how to work with purpose in live, emotionally charged environments.
My wife has been—and continues to be—my biggest cheerleader. Her belief in me never wavers, even when mine does. She’s been a quiet force behind the scenes, encouraging me to keep going, to keep growing, and to keep showing up for this craft.
And above all, I give credit to God for placing the name 1035 Images on my heart. It comes from Hebrews 10:35: “Hold on to your confidence and you shall be richly rewarded.” That verse has become the cornerstone of my business and my creative journey. Through all the twists, setbacks, and breakthroughs, I’ve learned that confidence isn’t just about self-belief—it’s about trust in the path, faith in the calling, and gratitude for the people who walk beside you.
