Daily Inspiration: Meet Lynne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynne.

Lynne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from The University of North Texas. Through a series of life happenings, I ended up teaching Art in public schools for 25 years. When I retired, I began painting full time and my second career as an artist has grown and evolved into a full-time commitment.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have encountered much pleasure as well as angst along my Art journey. Artists cannot live and create in a vacuum. When you expose your work to any type of criticism you are opening up for joy as well as sadness.
I had to learn to believe in my artistic vision and put blinders on so rejection would not affect me. When rejection occurred, I learned to use it as a learning tool.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is known for a mark making and layer style. I enjoy painting in this abstract style as well as exploring imagery with mixed media. I have had commissions which reflect family stories with the use of vintage photographs and drawing and painting. I feel that most people who know my work enjoy the layers, color and contrast.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Every time an artist enters a juried show or applies to a gallery, there is the risk of failure. I have learned that putting myself ‘out’ in public view involves risks but if I never take these risks I will never know success.
I feel lucky to have participated in numerous juried shows. I am represented by galleries and feel very fortunate
to have this experience. So taking risks does pay off.
