Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Smith.
Madison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was 16 years old during the pandemic and spent my time painting and posting my artwork online. People took interest and started requesting pricing of certain pieces, so my parents helped me create my art business, MDSARTWORX. After the pandemic I became involved with local fairs, contests, and galleries. I’ve been continuing to paint and connect with people over my work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a lot of learning. As an artist, I knew how to paint, but running a business requires more than that. It was also important for me to become confident in speaking about my work to others even though I am young.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in acrylic painting and digital art. I paint at a variety of scales, drawing from rich culture, emotion, and experience in each piece. I’m not afraid to vary my use of style from piece to piece. Art is a message. Each message will not have the same tone. But what unifies my artwork is soul—without which I couldn’t create. I’m most proud of seeing how others interpret my pieces. I love when art touches each person differently. It allows me to learn and grow from the wisdom and experience of others.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Art appears and survives in even the darkest of times. No matter what the future looks like, artists will continue to create. I seek to forever use my artistic voice to confront, heal, and process this world.
