Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallorie Hall
Hi Mallorie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After my first year in nursing school, I came to realize that it wasn’t the right path for me. Deep down, I’d always known that my true passion was working with animals. As a child, I dreamt of dedicating my life to them, even writing a business plan at the age of 12, envisioning a world where all shelters would be no-kill. However, I knew that pursuing veterinary work would be too emotionally challenging for me. Animals have always held a special place in my heart, and I wanted to find a meaningful way to support them.
When my own dog walker moved away and couldn’t provide a referral, it reminded me of my teenage years when neighbors in my building relied on me for pet care. This sparked an idea. I asked my former dog walker to refer his clients to me, and before long, I found myself with a handful of weekly clients. Over the next few months, word of mouth alone brought in more business than I had anticipated. I briefly partnered with another dog-walking company to gain experience, but after a year and a lot of valuable lessons, I decided to venture out on my own—and that’s how City Sniffers was born.
My background as a bartender in Dallas for 15 years helped me easily connect with people. Thanks to the friendships I’d built, as well as client referrals, my business quickly grew.
Providing peace of mind to families, knowing their beloved pets are in great hands, is an incredibly rewarding feeling. As a natural caregiver, being able to work with and love so many animals is something I genuinely treasure every day.
For the past six years, I’ve had the joy of owning City Sniffers. I’m immensely proud of what we’ve built and grateful for every moment spent doing what I love with people who share my passion for animals.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a dog walking company came with many challenges, especially since my expertise was in caring for animals, not in running a business. I had to learn the ins and outs of entrepreneurship, which was a steep learning curve. Listening to business podcasts and even being a guest on one gave me valuable insights that helped ease the growing pains. Initially, trusting others to care for animals the way I would was difficult, but over time, it opened my heart to a network of dedicated caregivers who share my passion and values.
One of my biggest ongoing challenges is maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I have a strong desire to be there for every client and every member of my team, but I’ve come to realize that building a successful business requires asking for help and leaning on others. Learning to delegate and trust in my team has been both humbling and empowering. It’s taught me that a thriving business is truly a collaborative effort.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
This was an especially difficult time for us being that most of our clients didn’t need us as they worked from home.
I have learned love from Covid-19.
The amount of clients that still insisted on us charging them to maintain their walkers and the business was breathtaking.
