Daily Inspiration: Meet Marcos & Susana Herrera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcos & Susana Herrera.

Hi Marcos & Susana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
CPR Roofing and General Contractors officially began in January of 2023, but the foundation was laid years before that. Prior to starting CPR, I worked for one of the largest roofing companies in the industry, where I was mentored by seasoned professionals and learned the trade from the ground up. Those years gave me both technical knowledge and a firsthand look at how large operations function.

Entrepreneurship has always been in my DNA, so eventually I made the decision to take a leap of faith. I partnered with a close friend and business partner, and together we launched CPR Roofing and General Contractors. Almost immediately, we were tested—in early December of that same year, a major storm hit Rockwall, Texas, dropping over an inch and a half of hail. That storm became our first real proving ground and helped us get traction early on.

From there, the company grew steadily. At our peak, we had roughly 22 full-time and part-time sales representatives and project managers working across the DFW area, many of whom were going door-to-door helping homeowners navigate the insurance process. It was a period of rapid growth, learning, and constant adjustment.

In late Q3 of 2025, my business partner decided to step away to start a company of his own. While it was a major transition, it also became a turning point. That’s when I brought my wife into the business as a partner. She brings a completely different—but incredibly valuable—skill set to the table, particularly in marketing, operations, and organization. Her involvement helped stabilize and refocus the company, and today CPR Roofing is truly a family-owned and operated business.

Looking back, the journey hasn’t been linear, but every phase—from mentorship, to rapid growth, to restructuring—has shaped who we are today. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and excited about what’s ahead.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and that’s something we’ve come to embrace. Like most construction businesses—especially in roofing—there have been real challenges at every stage.

One of the earliest struggles was rapid growth. We scaled quickly and at one point had around 22 full-time and part-time sales representatives and project managers working across the DFW area. While that growth created opportunity, it also brought challenges with consistency, training, quality control, and maintaining the culture and values we wanted CPR Roofing to stand for. We learned that growth for the sake of growth isn’t always sustainable.

A major turning point came when my original business partner decided to step away. That transition forced us to slow down, reassess, and rebuild the business in a more intentional way. Today, CPR Roofing is run solely by my wife and me. We no longer have sales teams or project managers in the field, and that decision was very deliberate.

Our focus shifted from sending large teams door-to-door to building relationships organically. I’m now the one out in the field, meeting homeowners face-to-face, knocking doors, inspecting roofs, and walking clients through the process personally. My wife runs everything behind the scenes—marketing, operations, scheduling, and systems—making sure the business stays organized and efficient.

The roofing industry itself is unpredictable, with weather patterns, insurance timelines, and cash flow always in play. But operating as a lean, family-run company has given us more control, better communication, and stronger trust with our clients. The road hasn’t been easy, but these challenges helped us redefine success—not as rapid expansion, but as building a business that’s sustainable, personal, and rooted in integrity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At CPR Roofing & General Contractors, we specialize in residential roofing, repairs, and storm restoration. But more than the work itself, we are known for how we treat homeowners. I believe honesty and customer service come first, and I approach every homeowner as if they were a close friend or family member.

For me, it’s not always about making a sale — it’s about doing what’s right for the customer, their needs, and their budget. I take the time to explain options, answer questions, and make sure people feel comfortable and informed before making any decisions. When someone trusts me with their home, I take that responsibility seriously.

Since my wife, Susana Herrera, joined the business to help market and grow the company, we’ve also become more involved in giving back to the community. Supporting local schools, participating in toy drives, and being present at community events is important to us. We believe that being a local business means more than providing a service — it means being an active part of the community we serve.

What sets us apart is that we lead with integrity and heart. We treat every home as if it were our own and every homeowner like family. That commitment to doing what’s right, both in our work and in our community, is what I’m most proud of.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m big on mindset and personal development, especially as an entrepreneur. Early on, I read several books by Grant Cardone, which helped shape how I think about sales, confidence, and taking ownership of results. Those books pushed me to think bigger, take calculated risks, and stay accountable—especially during the early growth stages of the company.

I also listen to audiobooks by David Goggins. His message around mental toughness, discipline, and doing the hard things when no one is watching has had a big impact on how I approach both business and life. Running a small, family-owned company comes with pressure, uncertainty, and long hours, and that mindset helps keep me grounded and focused when things get tough.

From a practical standpoint, we rely heavily on industry tools and technology to stay organized and efficient, especially now that the business is just my wife and me. We’re intentional about staying lean, continuing to learn, and improving a little every day—whether that’s through books, audio content, or real-world experience
