Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Morga.
Hi Marissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been creating art since I could pick up a crayon. My medium of choice is acrylic paint. I decided that in my elementary years after experimenting with pastels, water colors, oils, pencils & pens. In high school I started to take painting seriously and eventually started getting commissions from other students at school. After graduating I continued to create art and I would also get commissions from time to time until I got a dm one day inviting me to apply to be apart of an art show in January 2023. I attended the art show as an artist and walked in not even thinking I would sell anything but to my surprise I sold a few paintings. I was 20 when got the opportunity to do that. Ever since then I’ve been apart of some great art shows & have had the opportunity to sell some work & network with some great people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say my biggest struggle as an artist is doubting myself even though I know what I’m capable of. I tend to get into my own head way too much sometimes because I over think. I think to myself “I can’t do it, it’s to hard. I’m not ready” & the artist depression comes along and makes me shut down. Eventually I pick myself back up and everything works out.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I paint portraits of celebrities & things I like such as characters & food so in a way every thing I paint pertains to me in a way. I specialize in portraits because I like the challenge and how I surprise myself each time I see the finished product.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I took a risk with the first art show I attended because I’d never been to one to know how it works and I also didn’t even think about the possibility of my paintings selling. Without taking that chance I wouldn’t of had the opportunity to show case and sell my art. I wouldn’t of had the opportunity to meet other artists & art lovers. Taking that risk opened a door of possibilities and dreams just waiting to be grabbed and held on to.
