Marquita Johnson

Hi Marquita, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello and I thank you for featuring me with Voyage Dallas! I was born and raised in suburban New Jersey and as a child I always enjoyed the arts, beauty and science.  Growing up I was a perfectionist science nerd pageant girl which afforded me full scholarships to university.  I earned a Bachelor of Science from St. John’s University, New York City, NY and a Masters Of Education in Science /Special Education Education from Long Island University with special allocations from Columbia University, New York City, NY.  My work in science education afforded me the opportunity to co-found two high schools through the New Visions for Public Schools, coach science teachers for Teach for America and KIPP.  After multiple years in science and special education, I started to explore sciences from the theory to the practice of nursing. I enrolled at University of Texas Health Cizik School of Nursing using my science background with a focus on surgery and aesthetic nursing using my background of art and pageants.  I graduated and became a Registered Nurse equipped with the skills and steps to heal others through health and beauty. My heart and God’s vision for my life is to “Help people heal their inner and outer beauty,” which has been my heart’s desire and main goal.  I have studied the specialty of plastic surgery and aesthetic nursing for years and desired to learn everything this amazing field offered.  Alongside a team of talented surgeons, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and doctors across Houston, Texas, I began a learning journey in the world of aesthetic medicine that continues to this day. After becoming an Aesthetic Nurse, I was inspired to create my company, The Face Nurse USA, No Surgery Cosmetic Solutions, as a culmination of healing, beauty, nursing, and medicine services that aims to heal and create beauty. The Face Nurse USA creates results by providing you with beautiful bareFACED aesthetic results by performing aesthetic procedures, hosting aesthetic sessions at national conferences, providing resources on when to schedule aesthetic procedures, developing products for the aesthetic nurses, and connecting you to other nurses who work with top-notch plastic surgeons.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The aesthetic nursing career is not a smooth road however it is a rewarding road. The journey is and will continue to be a road of constant learning, innovation, growth, evolving techniques, networking, holistic patient care and industry changes. The path is so rewarding and there is never a dull moment.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an aesthetic nurse, I’m most proud of being able to heal someone through their own personal beauty goals.

I specialize in injectable micro-treatments for the face to maintain beauty aesthetics and slow down the anatomical changes that happen as we age.

I am most proud of working with many aesthetics and beauty brands to increase their research, training and knowledge on beauty standards across diverse people.

I believe that what sets me apart from others in the field as an aesthetic nurse, is my position as a surgery nurse and my background in science education.  I am actively involved in plastic/reconstruction surgeries as a surgery nurse which allows me to see the anatomy in a different way that prepares me to create beautiful aesthetic results that will merge seamlessly with surgical augmentations. Lastly, my years in science theory helps to understand the relationship between the mechanisms of action of aesthetic products and the body.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
As an aesthetic nurse, I learned the lesson that “Nothing is too hard; I just need more skills.”  The investment of skill development makes application of procedures easier and more favorable patient outcomes. This lesson has moved me to stay innovative, competent, and committed to my craft as an aesthetic nurse.
