Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa McFadden.
Hi Melissa , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Melissa McFadden completed grooming school at formally known, Texas Allbreed Grooming School in 2010. With now 15 years of experience she has worked in many different environments including big box stores, vet clinics, family owned salons, and boarding & daycare facilities. She previously owned the Mobile Grooming Salon, Styled By Melissa, which serviced North Texas areas like, Allen, Frisco & McKinney.
Having grown up in Grand Prairie, when she moved back home she knew that this is exactly where she wanted to open her first brick & mortar salon. Dog Hair Pet Salon was born.
Melissa currently owns a miniature Dachshund named Chickpea & a Cat named Bubbles Kitty.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I never found a grooming salon that had everything I wanted. There would be some positives but the cons would always outweigh the pros for me.
Owning a Mobile Grooming Salon was really hard. So many challenges and unexpected scheduling changes day to day. I ended up having to sell this business from total burnout.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Cute Pet Trims for Small Dogs 50lbs and under. I have always Loved being able to take a dog from saggy to fabulous. To see the reactions of their owners and to feel the gratitude from the dogs is very fulfilling. I feel blessed to be able to do what I do.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
As far as teaching me to groom I have had many mentors. Jan, Lynn, & Steve were my instructors in grooming school. And of course now days we all follow our favorite grooming celebrities and I have learned so many tips and tricks from all of them.
As far as success in business it’s because of my family. My grandfather originally invested into my Mobile Grooming Salon & my mother invested into my brick & mortar Dog Hair Pet Salon.
