Today we’d like to introduce you to Melvin Heath.

Melvin Heath

Hi Melvin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When i 12 got my first laptop from being a make a wish kid. (That’s long story). I started to play around with the software Windows movie maker, overtime I can good at it. I would make family birthday videos and special effect and transitions. I later learn that, video editors make great money. So going to Hollywood and being video editor became my dream. Fast forward drop out of college, and start learning video editing and graphic design on my own. Fast forward again 2020 COVID times and i decide to learn how to produce music (all this was what I was learning in college). Long story short I am using all these skills to make a living and trying to find balance in being a creative, an entrepreneur, most of a human experiencing life. My journey has been anything but straight and narrow, off the beat and path, through alleys and backstreets. But I wouldn’t change anything if I could.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The first struggle was failing out of college, and being sad. At that point school was all I knew and hadn’t had a job yet, so that was the next step to find a job. Got my first job at dominos as a delivery driver. Being a pizza delivery driver in the middle of the hood is definitely, an adventure I’ll say that my much.

2nd struggle- growing on social media. Back when all u had to do was put your work up and your audience would find you Now almost have be a character just to get views on your work It’s a double edged sword, I guess. People get to connect with you on a person level through putting a face to the art. The negative to is when your not really into putting your face out there, it can be challenging especially when your a private person.

Number 3.- Burnout
I think it’s normal have burnout not as creative but with anything u do. Life is hard and can get in the way a lot of reaching your goals. I’m still learning myself how to take breaks and not beat myself up over not doing something.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When I’m not working at my job. I’m am networking with independent and underground artists as a producer. If they need graphics or videos done I handle that as well. I am proud that i didn’t let failing out of college stop me from learning what I want to learn.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
1. Resilience 2. Eager to learn
3. Delusion
4. Being stubborn
5. Being a hustler/ go a getter
6. Not following and going my own way
7. Being open to new things
