Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Kornblum.
Hi Monica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always had a heart for kids. Even before starting Language Lions, working with children was something that brought me so much joy and purpose. As a speech-language pathologist, I began to see how many children and families needed more individualized support than they were able to find. I wanted to do something about it—not just provide speech therapy, but really get to know each child, meet them where they are, and help them feel confident in who they are and how they communicate.
In 2020, I took a leap of faith and started Language Lions Speech Therapy. I started with a vision, a passion for children, and a desire to make a difference in my own community. Watching it grow from an idea into a practice that serves so many children and families has been incredibly meaningful to me. Every child who finds their voice, gains confidence, or reaches a goal they once struggled with reminds me why I started. Language Lions has become so much more than a business—it is something I truly feel called to do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been plenty of speed bumps, unexpected challenges, and moments when I have had to step outside of my comfort zone. But with every challenge, I have learned, grown, and become a better business owner and clinician. Building Language Lions has taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of continuing to believe in the “why” behind what I do…even on the difficult days.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Language Lions Speech Therapy is a pediatric private practice serving children and families in our local community. We provide individualized speech and language therapy in homes, schools, and daycares, helping children develop the communication skills they need to be successful in everyday life. We specialize in early language development, speech sound disorders, articulation, and helping children become more confident communicators.
What I am most proud of is the relationships we have built with the children and families we serve. I never wanted Language Lions to feel like a “one-size-fits-all” therapy practice. Every child is different, and I believe therapy should be individualized, engaging, and centered around who that child is. We celebrate the small victories just as much as the big ones, and we work closely with parents, teachers, and other professionals so that progress carries over beyond the therapy session.
I think what sets Language Lions apart is the heart behind it. We truly care about the whole child—not just their speech goals. We want children to feel seen, encouraged, and proud of themselves. I am also incredibly proud of the team we have built. What started as my vision has grown into a group of passionate clinicians who share that same heart for children and families. Seeing Language Lions grow while still maintaining that personal, family-centered approach is something I am especially proud of
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always a people person and a lifelong learner. I genuinely loved school, loved learning new things, and was always surrounded by friends. I have always been curious, social, and someone who enjoys connecting with people. Looking back, I can also see that the entrepreneurial side of me was there from a very young age! While the other kids were playing on the playground, I was making and selling my own paper. I guess you could say I have always been a little bit of a business owner at heart! I loved creating something of my own, finding a way to make it useful, and sharing it with others. Those qualities—my love of people, learning, creativity, and entrepreneurship—have stayed with me and have definitely shaped the person and business owner I am today.
