Daily Inspiration: Meet Morgan Mathis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Mathis.

Hi Morgan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
As cliche as it sounds, I believe the music saved my life. Before I was just trying not to stand out and fit into the crowd time went by and it seemed like all I did was stand out, I was always passionate about music though but I never thought would make it at first; I was terrible at it but as everyone knows you got to put countless hours in growing and with my drive and hunger that’s exactly what I did, a year went by and I had songs I thought would be ready for streaming platforms, a couple of months later I dropped an album got some buzz and I started doing shows a few months after high school I got invited to perform in my first festival through the connections I’ve made. So, all I can say is you give me an inch. Best believe I’m going to take a mile!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have undoubtedly been some challenging paths. My parents didn’t want me to do music at all, and the first time I told them I wanted to be a musician, they laughed in my face in front of other people. On top of that, they were a little overprotective, which led to many missed opportunities. I understand that they wanted to keep me safe, but taking the safe route never got anyone anywhere. Writing music that was authentic was difficult for me because I didn’t want to be that person and I didn’t want to talk about the familial problems I had. I grew and became happier as I faced challenges more often, despite the difficulties.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So, as an artist, I typically go to a lot of beats throughout my day and choose the beats that spark an interest in my head from there or create a song that reflects me through my music, even in the most basic ways. I believe I specialize in writing hooks because what I typically do is write lines that are simple for me to be able to teach them to people on the go, to the point where I can get stuck in your head, and you only listen to the song once. What sets me apart is that I’m authentic when it comes to what I’m doing. I don’t cross boundaries that are not me. That and I make music to inspire emotions in people. On top of that, I try to keep my music clean for industry purposes.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Since I don’t think I have anything noteworthy that folks don’t already know about me or can’t find out, I’ll be honest. I make every effort to be transparent. In spite of the fact that I am an open book, when you truly take the time to read it, I am still a crazy ass tale. I would probably only mention that I was in the varsity choir if I had to.
