Daily Inspiration: Meet Nathan Bounphisai

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Bounphisai.

Hi Nathan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been drawing and interested in design ever since a child. After high school, it sparked even more as modern design made new waves and to this day it’s still my main passion. My business was born during pandemic boredom! I enjoy combining all of the things I love together into my concept: Food, Design, & Merchandise. Being stuck at home with ideas I couldn’t pass up got me to where I am today with many connections and experiences that I’m thankful for.

I couldn’t have done it all without my family and friends that always have my back. My supporters are also always there for me, no matter where I go!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not at all. I truly believe that if things are too easy then it would not be worth the journey and struggle. Starting out brand new and learning different processes while making tons of mistakes along the way would heavily slow me down, but I had to keep being patient with myself. Countless days I’ve felt overwhelmed with the workload and stress, but over time things slowly came to fruition.

Part of running a business is being able to accept feedback well, and although it’s not always positive I have to stay strong and strive to keep improving. The pressure of not improving enough or not making strides with my business hangs in the back of my mind constantly, because if I fail then it would feel like all the struggles were for nothing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I created inu-san onigiri, a Japanese pop-up shop concept based in Dallas, TX. We specialize in making rice balls, fruit sandos, and special merch!

We are known by our shiba inu character and special events. Our pop-ups are also not only just in Dallas. We’ve been to Atlanta, Chicago, & Houston so far!

I am most proud of how much I’ve put into the brand on my own, and how much I am still constantly working on it. What sets us apart from others is that our menu has no bounds and every week is something different!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I feel very fortunate enough to say that good luck played a big role in my business. I have the best customer base that supports me in everything I do! It feels as if everything fell into place perfectly for me and I couldn’t imagine it any other way.
