Hi Nawana and Terrell , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Teafusion was born in 2017 out of what felt like an ordinary head cold — but God had bigger plans. My husband, Terrell, made me some ginger tea, but I didn’t want it the regular way. I asked him for something a little different, and being who he is, he mixed ginger with a fruity flavor that came from a candy syrup he had made by accident for a cake. After drinking it, I felt better within days — something that never happened before. Normally, my colds lasted two months. We knew something had shifted.
Our lifestyle was changing, and we had started keeping fresh ginger in the house. God used that moment — and my husband — to help heal me. I started drinking the tea regularly and taking it to work. My coworkers loved the smell and began asking for their own. That’s when I realized this wasn’t just tea; it was something special. I told them I’d have to charge next time, and they said, “That’s fine.” I called Terrell and said, “We’ve got orders!” That night, we went to Michaels, bought mason jars, and began brewing and selling from home.
By 2018, strangers were falling in love with our tea. At our first women’s event in Chicago, we sold out the first day and had to restock for day two. That’s when we knew: this was bigger than us. We kept doing events, learning along the way — including the hard lessons that not every market is the right fit. In 2019, we decided to do things the right way, filing for our LLC just before COVID shut everything down.
Even through that pause, we stayed faithful. In August 2021, we moved to Texas, and life required us to put Teafusion on hold. But in October 2024, we relaunched with our signature flavors: Blueberry Pineapple Ginger Tea, Peach Cobbler Ginger Tea, Cran-Apple Hibiscus, Strawberry Ginger Lemonade, and Apple Ginger Lemonade.
Teafusion is brewed with intention, faith, and resilience. Every recipe is God-given, crafted by Terrell to bring healing and joy. We brew with purpose — to serve you something that tastes good and does good. We brew with faith — because every bottle is a testimony. And we brew with resilience — because no matter the challenge, sweet victory is ours.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a beverage business from the ground up has brought plenty of challenges — from production costs and sourcing ingredients to navigating permits, kitchen access, and event logistics. Early on, we also learned that not every market or event is the right fit, which meant losing money before finding the right opportunities.
When we moved to Texas, it felt like starting from zero. We didn’t have the same customer base or local reputation, and rebuilding took time, energy, and faith. Balancing our business with full-time jobs and family responsibilities has been tough, but it’s also taught us how to prioritize what truly matters. Every challenge has made us sharper, more disciplined, and more intentional with how we grow.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We’ve both built careers that prepared us for entrepreneurship. Terrell’s experience in food service and my background in supply chain has taught us how to manage people, processes, and pressure. We’re proud that we’ve been able to merge those skills into something that serves others. What sets us apart is that we lead with faith and excellence wherever we are — at work, in business, and relationships — and we see every role as part of our purpose.
What does success mean to you?
We define success by impact — not numbers. For us, success happens every time someone tells us they’ve replaced sugary drinks with our teas or found a flavor that helps them feel better. When we can help someone make a healthier choice or introduce them to a beverage that genuinely supports their wellness, that’s success.
It’s not just about selling bottles — it’s about knowing we’ve made a difference in how people think about what they drink. If we’ve encouraged even one person to choose something more nourishing, then we’ve done what we were called to do.
