Today we’d like to introduce you to Nisha Shah.
Hi Nisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a passionate artist, textile and fashion designer, educator, entrepreneur, and a devoted mom. Originally from India, I’ve been proud to call Coppell home for 23 years.
Back in Mumbai, I taught fashion design in colleges, but when I moved here as a first-generation immigrant and new mother, life shifted. My deep love for art gave me the courage to start small, right from my apartment. I wanted to create something meaningful that blended my roles as a mom and an educator—a space where art wasn’t just about techniques, but also about self-discovery and emotional growth. That’s how Falak Art Studio was born.
With the studio, my mission has always been to make art a joyful journey of learning and healing. For me, art has been a guiding light, and now I dedicate myself to helping others find their voice, build confidence, and experience that same transformation through creativity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all—it’s been a road with plenty of bumps. Starting something new in a country far from home was overwhelming. There were times when I questioned if people would understand or value what I was trying to build. Balancing motherhood, family responsibilities, and running a studio was not easy either. There were financial struggles, cultural adjustments, and moments of self-doubt. But each challenge taught me resilience and reminded me why I started—to give others the gift of art. Looking back, those struggles shaped the foundation of Falak Art Studio and made every milestone even more meaningful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Founded in Coppell, Falak Art Studio offers structured art programs for all ages and skill levels. Our goal is simple yet powerful: to inspire creativity, build confidence, and create community through the arts.
We strongly believe that creativity grows best when rooted in strong foundations—just like learning a language or any subject. That’s why we focus on essentials like sketching, composition, perspective, and working across mediums. But beyond the technical, we give our students the freedom to explore and develop their unique artistic identities. From holiday projects to cultural themes, we encourage them to bring their own experiences and stories into their art.
Through our nonprofit, Paint A Hope, we extend this mission into therapeutic spaces, using art to heal, comfort, and connect people across North Texas.
We are proud to be the only curriculum-based art studio in DFW. Many of our students participate in contests and consistently win awards, boosting their confidence while also building strong portfolios for scholarships and college applications.
Over the years, our students have been guided to participate in several art contests, and few of the well-known platforms where they have consistently won recognition and made us proud; the Irving Art Center Annual Art Connection Member Show, DART Student Art Contest, The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, VASE Regional & State Medals, Junior VASE, Adopt a Beach Art Contest, Junior Artist – National Kids Art Competition, Youth Art Month, Celebrating Art, as well as many district and school-level contests.Their achievements inspire younger learners and reinforce our belief in nurturing both skill and self-expression.
We also provide volunteer and internship opportunities for high school students, giving them a platform to lead, contribute, and grow. This not only supports their personal development but also helps us cultivate the next generation of creative leaders.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I envision Falak Art Studio and Paint A Hope expanding into more schools, communities, and healthcare spaces. I want our studio to be known as a nurturing hub where creativity goes hand-in-hand with career opportunities, portfolio development, and emotional growth. On a broader scale, I believe art will continue to gain recognition not only as a skill, but also as a tool for healing, inclusivity, and social change.
