Today we’d like to introduce you to Ophelia Atte.
Hi Ophelia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I like to say that my wedding industry journey started in 2009. Although I’d loved and had been into organizing long before then. I was born and raised in Ivory Coast, and ever since I can remember, I’ve been drawn to events, particularly the behind-the-scenes. A quick anecdote- My mother used to tell me that I would show up to birthday parties two hours early and just stand around watching people set up the party. Lol. She had no idea why, but I can now safely tell her that it was my passion for organization, planning, and design that was brewing at the time.
2009 is when I helped a friend with her wedding program and got hooked. I also did her place cards and loved that I could create and express my creativity through those simple materials. The beautiful smile on her face sealed the deal. This was the start of my journey.
Later that year, I opened an Event Stationery Business. There I handled wedding stationery, menus, seating charts, and more.
II also managed décor and planning for weddings and other events by family, church, and friends.
However, having the opportunity to help plan my sister’s wedding from A to Z was the one crucial push that I needed. It was then that I decided to add and pursue the event planning aspect fully. I used to handle a little bit of everything by taking a back seat. To embrace my true calling, I had to step outside of my comfort zone. This is what led to me becoming a certified event designer and the opening of Ophelia Event Affairs- Planning and Design in 2020.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Is anything in life ever a smooth road, haha? With my career in accounting, it was quite a dilemma deciding if to abandon that for my passion or not. Finding the finance to start and establish a business was also a challenge. Remember that in 2020 we were smack dab in the middle of the pandemic!
Another challenge that I faced was uncertainty. Dealing with the unknown is never easy.
However, I took that step, and I am happy to be where I am now. I am grateful for it and have learned something from every struggle. I’ve discovered they also made me stronger and more decisive.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a certified event planner and designer. At Ophelia Event Affairs, we bring a fresh perspective to event design. We do this by working closely with our clients to create an extraordinary event with modern style and elegance—A celebration that reflects their personalities. No two events we do are ever the same.
We cater to busy professionals who highly value the guest experience and the overall aesthetic and design of the event. Our ideal clients aren’t afraid to think outside the box. They trust our work and value our experiences.
One of the things I’m really proud of is that we are known for our high standards and beautiful presentations. Every single one of our clients is always satisfied with the level of dedication and service they receive from us.
Personally, I go above and beyond for my customers and vendors. I’m proud that I can create an extraordinary and beautiful memory from scratch. I make sure they get the service and help they need. I don’t see them as clients- but as family.
That smile on my client’s face at the end of the night is the best gift.
Here we also respect all of the cultures and traditions of our clients. Wedding planning is not only about décor and bling- it’s about families. One advantage for me is that in the culture where I come from, we value marriage so much. We have even 2-3 ceremonies before we consider ourselves totally married (Lol).
That is why in my business, we honor the core values of both families. We make sure that just for that day, it’s all about the couple and their loved ones.
So, what services do we offer? In summary, we provide full planning, partial planning, and month of coordination:
Our full planning package means we’ll handle every aspect of your planning from start to finish. We’ll listen to your vision for your celebration and curate an event that turns your dreams into reality. This package is for busy couples who don’t have too much time on their hands.
Our partial planning packages are for couples who are a little bit more hands-on. We’re available for consultations and help add a beautiful finishing to ensure the success of their event.
With our month-of-coordination, the goal is to give our clients time to rest before and on their wedding day. So, we help tie up any loose ends and then coordinate their successful wedding day.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I always give more than what was promised… Honestly, I get paid for my work because I have to put a monetary value on it. If it were up to me and my passion, I would do it just to bring joy into people’s hearts. But I have come to understand the importance of attaching a monetary value to our services. I still go over and beyond with my work anyways, haha.
